Congrats to your DS @Itsallstressstressstress that's great news!

Thank you, I really appreciate having somewhere to come and share my concerns and the great advice that everyone has given. It has helped keep me sane I won’t lie.

inae · 04/08/2026 11:05

Same here, it's definitely kept me sane (and informed!). Grateful for this thread.

DS got 3 A’s for his Advanced Highers so is off to St Andrews. So happy and relieved for him.
Good luck to those still waiting.

Congratulations 🎊 it's such a relief isn't it. Our next hurdle will be securing her preferred accommodation!

Yes, I know. I have no idea when they hear about the accommodation, hopefully not too long to wait.

Katyapup · 04/08/2026 12:29

Huge congratulations to your DS, @Itsallstressstressstress! What a relief!

Peanuts79 · 04/08/2026 12:50

@Itsallstressstressstress amazing news!!! Such a marathon but thrilled to bits for you all - hopefully some celebrations planned.

Thanks - I have a question 🙂

What tech would you recommend buying for university - eg. laptop, tablet, etc? And are there any apps/subscriptions worth signing up for?

Hi :)

This is slightly med school dependent, I can speak for Leeds but I am sure it applies in general for the most part

Some med schools give iPads I believe, Manchester and Leicester are examples

I don't think a tablet is necessary

A laptop is a must though, I got a good deal on mine but I would prioritse storage and decent RAM over graphics and screen quality although it bothers some more than others.

For medical school use i use it for study resources like PDFs, accessing lectures and their respective PowerPoint slides, using Microsoft Word, watching YouTube and using anki (a great flashcard app).. just basic things nothing intensive

Personally I like windows laptops, but plenty of people use Macbooks and they seem just as compatible

As for anki I highly recommend it. I think it is free on all devices besides Iphones but even then I would pay the minimal one time cost because it is so worth it. I was never a flashcard person before, but it helped a ton and is extremely popular. Of course no rush to buy it now.

Other than this I don't think any other tech or software is needed, it will all become clearer once med school begins and everyone finds their own study methods etc

Sorry for the essay 😅feel free to ask if anything wasn't clear or you have more questions

Well we did offer to take him out for dinner this evening but he’s opted to go out with his mates to the pub!. We might go out later in the week once he’s not working and have a meal.

Sachetaandb · 04/08/2026 15:45

Congratulations to the Scottish candidates getting their places.

rockstuckhardplace · 04/08/2026 17:09

Hurrah @Itsallstressstressstress!! Fantastic news.

Also well done to your DD, @mumsneedwine. I know it was a while ago that you posted but I haven't been on for a while.

Can't believe there's only just a week to go for the rest of us. Also weird to think that A-level results are actually going to unis on Friday (do I have that right?). And for my English DD who's firmed a Scottish uni, also weird to think that most of her fellow offer holders will now know where they stand.

bluefineliner · 04/08/2026 18:08

@Itsallstressstressstress yay massive congratulations to your DS! What a long process this has been and it has ended in the best possible way! Have a great celebration with (or without!) your DS and enjoy relaxing for the next few weeks.

Thank you. It’s not good for the old nerves. Just picked up DS from the pub, he with a kebab in hand and me with a bucket and water (just in case as he’s not a big drinker!).

PurryGrowls · 04/08/2026 23:32

Big congrats @Itsallstressstressstress Hopefully some of your stress can dissipate now! Must be a wonderful feeling.

A few nerves starting to creep in now - yikes, it does feel weird that unis will have results on Friday 😳

Thank you, I am not going to lie I slept like a baby last night.

Yeah, if you log on to UCAS you can see if you were accepted earlier that day but to get actual results you have to wait for school to open

crispy2019 · 05/08/2026 14:45

Trying to stay positive…I’ll research it but does anyone have a list of med schools that accept resits ?

crispy2019 · 05/08/2026 18:44

MedicalStudent2024 · 05/08/2026 15:05

https://www.themedicportal.com/application-guide/choosing-a-medical-school/medical-school-a-level-resit-policies/

Plenty of people resit and get into med so don't panic, and wait for results

Thank you 🙏

Thank you, so pleased for him as he put the time in for his revision and it'[s paid off. Went out this morning and started looking at what he'll need and also ordered lab coat. PhD viva that sounds tough, when will they find out how they got on?
P.S hope you had a lovely holiday.

yes had a fab holiday thank you! as always, over too soon. Portugal was lovely- hot but breezy.

They find out almost immediately - and happy to say, they got a pass with minor corrections! :) all good. Now I have to sort out all the admin related to that, and move on to the next big thing on my long list of things to do! eek.

Brilliant news, congratulations to them.

We too were in Portugal, and I agree very hot and breezy. thankfully they seem to have avoided the wildfires that the rest of Europe seems to be experiencing.
