Hi everyone, here's the new thread!

Morning all,

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing? Time is ticking on and has been ok so far for DD I think. She is working which is making the days go more quickly and also has found a love of reading again. Lots of lounging around in the sun with a book which I am pleased about as she is now completely destressed from exams.

We have an occasional chat about results but there is not much to say when we have no clue where she is going to be heading yet. I want to get excited for her for uni but we are just not thinking that far ahead yet.

She does have a back up UCAT date booked but that is it. Our holiday has been and gone so results day is the next big event for us now!

Hope you are all enjoying summer so far.

Oh and DD had her Meningitis jab on Monday too which is another thing ticked off.

Hello there - been pretty quiet here on the post-exams front apart from a sudden anxiety about biology the other day (on my daughter’s part!) - not too long to wait now!

We’re going on holiday to France next week, a bit worried about the wildfire situation. We’ll be further east than the current fire but the situation seems quite precarious!

Great your daughter is reading again @bluefineliner I remember the joy of a long summer holiday & a great book - oh to be young again!

DD1 is reading Staningrad as her summer read. So not moved on much from A level History!

There are a couple of medicine courses currently in clearing: University of Lancashire (needs AAA) and University of Greater Manchester (needs AAB). Will be interesting to see if they are still available come results day.

That’s a great book but not exactly light summer reading!

Hope everyone’s doing well! Just catching up after a while. Our holiday is over and it was way too short, if you ask me.

DD passed her driving theory test and has started her driving lessons, though trying to find a test slot for September is another story. I had no idea it was such madness trying to book one! She also achieved her Gold DofE award and is on the invite list for the ceremony at Buckingham palace (though that won't be until May/June 2027). Apart from that, she’s hanging out with friends and "not doing anything productive," to quote her. She's also making various lists for uni.

We’ve also booked a "just in case" UCAT test for September, but I’m really hoping we can cancel it come results day in August!

Just caught up with some of the posts... congrats @notsoperfect33, must have been such a joy!

Thanks @inae we were discussing the experience this morning and she was saying oh it wasn't that hard! I had to remind her it was a year of relentless deadlines, revision, coursework, and interview practice. I think its a bit like childbirth you forget how bad the pain was afterwards 😂
She has a driving test next week so focus has been on that and working to help pay for the nice to haves.

I know it's completely irrelevant but so happy hope it's ok to share. My DD passed her RCOG part 1 today. 5 hour exam - again in a Pearson centre but costs £600 a go ! Such a relief, but now on to part 2. Exams never end ....

Well done to your DD. You have supported our children with all your advice so post as proudly as you like!

It is completely relevant to us @mumsneedwine ! Well done to your DD, be very proud, we understand and it is a reminder of this never ending journey of learning and testing our YP have ahead of them.

2 weeks to go, I've not really started to think about DD moving out up to now but I keep getting little of flashes of how I might feel dropping her off and its making me sad 😢. Obviously this is the preference to having her at home for a gap year and reapplying though! Hope everyone is ok.

Well done to DD, @mumsneedwine and thanks for sharing with us! A 5-hour exam, wow. It's a tough path they chose, and it truly never ends.

Thanks everyone for being so lovely. Post grad exams seem extra horrible to me (although still think UCAT is up there). Next one is a 'quick' 3 hour thing. Pearson must make a fortune out of medics !! This is the part 1 she's just passed - ooh they get a lunch break 😂. Has a 30-40% pass rate each sitting which seems bonkers to me.
Hope all holding out ok. Only a few weeks to go (even less for our Scotty friends 😊).

Oh got that wrong (DD having brunch with me - got up extra early to drive 2 hours for a cheeky morning with her). Next exam is 6 hours 😂. But you do get that lunch break (in a grotty Pearson computer hub).

Great news, that sounds like a horrendous ordeal! And £600? I’m staggered they have to pay for these qualifications 😳

I know you meant it in a friendly way but just a gentle reminder that the correct adjective for people is Scottish and using other terms is offensive. Scotty is a dog, Scotch is a drink, Scots is a language.

@FruAashild apologies. My Scottish friends call it Scottyland and themselves Scotties. Never occurred to me it could be offensive. Sorry again.

We’re counting down to 8am Tuesday for exam results. DS seems relaxed, I am waking at 4.30-5.00 each morning worrying!

@Itsallstressstressstress Counting down here too - results day is a busy one for many teachers ! Hope everything goes as planned and no need for the rest of this message.

But, if not got results act quickly. Find out how near grade boundaries and if close then get school to look at papers asap (I do it that day but please don't expect all teachers to be able to do this ! My kids are grown). Then get priority remark if think worth it, contact Uni to let them know asap. And keep fingers crossed. Priority remarks are often back in 3 days and some Unis will hold the place although some do unfortunately offer deferred entry (mean I think !).

If currently have no offers but smash results day then keep an eye on clearing, tsr, here and any other social media to hear about places with vacancies. Get everyone you can go call the number and then your child to speak to them and have ucas number, grades and UCAT handy - interviews will often be that afternoon and offers by the end of the day. It can be a whirlwind.

Good luck ! For my 2 kids I didn't sleep a wink night before results day so plan something to keep you busy - I knitted a scarf !

Thanks for the helpful tips! We're not in that position until next year, but thinking ahead, DD's school opens at 8.30am for A level results - does this put her at a disadvantage? Others could be on the phones 30 minutes earlier? I believe school's can hand over results from 8am? What time does your school open on results day?

@SuperSue77we open at 8am (we are in at 7am as try and work out close papers before kids even arrive). UCAS will show results then too so will have an idea if need to be at school at 8.30. No disadvantage though as most clearing lines won't open until 9am.

It's a fantastic day but I really really hate it when my students miss their offers (unless they've been a plonker and not studied !!!!)

Thank you for the helpful advice. As you say hopefully not needed but it’s good to have a plan in case it is needed. If it’s anything like last year DS will be asleep and we’ll need to wake him up to get his phone and wait for his text to arrive.

Does UCAS only show whether they have been successful or not - or does it list their results too? I assumed it only said whether they had been accepted by firm or insurance, but that you only get to know the actual results when you collect them from school.

But if clearing lines don’t open until 9am then hopefully getting results at 8.30am doesn’t put them at too much of a disadvantage.

Sounds like your school is super supportive!

UCAS don’t show exam results, only whether and where they have been successful at gaining university entry.
