Hi everyone, here's the new thread!

OP posts:
ProseccoPie · 23/03/2026 07:23

you don’t have to firm and insure at the same time!
If you’re sure what you want to firm, you can do that, secure your accommodation while still waiting for offers…..
my dd did that

Oh I didn't know that! thank you I'll let DD know.

ProseccoPie · 23/03/2026 07:35

@bluefineliner
please double check current ucas rules. But my dd only went 2 years ago.

ProseccoPie · 23/03/2026 07:37

Ive just checked…. A quick ‘ google’ says you can firm and insure separately

PurryGrowls · 23/03/2026 11:52

Katyapup · 22/03/2026 20:46

We went @purrygrowls - really impressed with staff and students, excellent parent Q&A session!

We looked around a few of the halls, and a bit of the campus (in getting to the halls!). Halls all fairly similar really, all en-suite, etc. Happy to answer any specific questions if I can!

@Katyapup Yes, the parents’ session was very informative. Amazingly articulate students too!
Was hoping to get a good feel for the campus by wandering round but unfortunately we had to rush for a train … Hopefully it had a good vibe! Did you like the look of the accomodation? I guess they’re all pretty similar really - we saw great accomodation in Lancaster which is relatively new but quite pricey.

inae · 23/03/2026 11:59

@ProseccoPie how does that work? My DD is unable to select a firm choice now, as she has only heard from 4 out of her 5 choices and still waiting for Southampton.

From what I know, UCAS allows you to firm and insure only after you heard from all your choices (unless, of course, you decide to withdraw your application from the uni you are still waiting for).

We did like the accommodation, much nicer and fresher than others we'd seen.

Some of the halls didn't have separate ovens, but the students in those had air-fryers (which if my uni days are anything to go by, means at least you're using something your own that's clean!), and they said they hadn't found it to be a problem.

Prices ranged from ~£175ish-£209 - all en-suite.

All the rooms were fairly modern as the uni itself isn't very old, with some newer ones as well.

Hi all, hope you’re doing well.

We went to the UEA OHD yesterday, my daughter enjoyed it. Was very busy, but impressed by the staff and students we met. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to properly explore the campus or accommodation, did anyone else go?

Still to hear from Southampton, think offers will be sent out this coming week…

Good luck to everyone still waiting and hope your YP gets those Liverpool offers @wooly1962 @Vista123 @SlenderRations

Dd at UEA. Shout if you have any questions

PurryGrowls · 23/03/2026 19:32

Thank you @Katyapup , very helpful - and yes, I don’t think my student flat oven would be allowed today!
@Thefatbutteredpig - thanks and good to know - I might message you at some point if that’s ok.

ProseccoPie · 23/03/2026 19:56

@inae im honestly not sure, but I know my dd, firmed and insured separately

SuperSue77 · 23/03/2026 21:58

Hi everyone. Sorry to ask anbout something your YP have finished months ango, but does anyone know of a UCAT resource where you can access a question bank for specific types of questions? DD is trying to focus on DM specifically probability, strongest argument and venn diagrams. Everything she has found so far is just general DM tests with everything, I thought there might be a question bank where you can do individual questions within on subsection - or am I hoping for too much?

Hi, DD used Medify and Medentry and said both allowed her to do sub topics like logic puzzles or venn diagrams in isolation. I can remember her telling me she had spent time on logic puzzles specifically as it was tricky for her at the beginning.

We only signed up for them around 8 weeks before though so she may not have drilled down as much until then?

From what I've looked at recently on UCAS, to enable DD to firm she has to withdraw any outstanding choices which haven't given a decision first, which she doesn't want to do ideally. I don't think UCAS gives the option of firming until this happens.

Fingers crossed we hear this week.

inae · 24/03/2026 11:14

Whoever is waiting for Southampton: according to TSR, they started sending offers today (NB. I believe they're for graduate applicants or WP, not for the main BM5 group).

Good luck to all waiting for Soton and Liverpool decisions this week! (particularly if it would be a first offer 🤞).

mumsneedwine · 24/03/2026 12:08

Almost over. Hopefully good news this week.
You have to have all your decisions before can form and insure (or withdraw). But accommodation will still be available if choose a bit later - and there's usually quite a lot of shifting in August after results day (as some don't get grades/decide not to go this year). Hang in there !

SuperSue77 · 24/03/2026 12:19

Thanks @bluefineliner I can’t react ‘Thanks’ to your post as I’m on my phone and it doesn’t let me!
I might look into Medentry for her as she’s going to use Medify nearer the time, but maybe a couple of months of Medentry might help at this stage.

FruAashild · 24/03/2026 13:20

I think the advice is to not do more than 6-8 weeks of preparation for the UCAT, your daughter should be concentrating on her end of year 12 exams at the moment to make sure she'll get the predicted grades she needs for UCAS.

Thanks, but the way DD learns is better suited to getting to know the style of questions over a longer time period and then the intensive period will come in the 5 weeks she has clear after school and before when she hopes to sit the test.

Her mocks are April and she's already been told that her predicted grades for UCAS will be the higher of mock grades and her FFT5 grades. The FFT5s were all A* so however she performs in the April exams will not impact that. She is not the type to take her foot off the gas either, so I don't foresee any event that would make school revisit their decision.

I have got her a 3 month Medentry subscription so she can choose questions from there, and then she'll switch to Medify and the UCAT site nearer the test.

crispy2019 · 26/03/2026 11:28

Fingers crossed 🤞 for Friday …we are waiting on Liverpool and Manchester…not optimistic for Liverpool but really want Manchester…let’s hope the waiting wil be over!

inae · 26/03/2026 16:41

@crispy2019 Good luck with the offers! I heard both Liverpool and Southampton BM5 will send offers on Tuesday the 31st of March... but don't quote me on this, as it's hearsay from my DD’s aspiring med students' WhatsApp groups.

Southampton offers to GEM applicants (BM4) and WP/contextual (BM6) started yesterday.

inae · 26/03/2026 17:11

Well that message was short lived, DD has just shouted from the other room that Liverpool has started offerring, someone from her whatsapp group got an offer 😂

Fingers crossed for all waiting for Liverpool offers!

rockstuckhardplace · 26/03/2026 17:16

Well done to your DD's friend, @inae!

Vista123 · 26/03/2026 17:27

DD just got an offer through for Liverpool! AAA or A star A B - but As must be in Chemistry and Biology (English is the other). Huge good luck to the other YP who are waiting 🍀

rockstuckhardplace · 26/03/2026 17:34

Fantastic news @Vista123!
