Student Maintenance Loan

Hi all

A little advice please. My DD will be going to uni in September and will need to be in halls. Currently, myself and my partners income would take her over the limit and she would only get the minimum amount. Her dad, who she spends 50% of the time with, is on UC and unemployed. Can we just name him on the application? Does it matter that I’m the one who gets child benefit?

Thanks

Evidently they can pick which parent if they spend an equal amount of time with both:

Can you afford to top her up if she gets the minimum loan OP? Sorry to state the obvious, but the more she borrows the more she has to pay back. Plus it might complicate things if her dad finds work in the near future.

Is she genuinely 50/50? Where is school/doctor registered

Everything is registered with me. Purely because I get child benefit for her. She boards at college during the week and then spends a weekend with each of us at a time.

Her dad has been on long term pip for many years so no chance of him getting a job.

Even though we earn more than what’s allowed for the loan, we wouldn’t be able to fund her much during uni because of our other commitments.
