I’m not sure what the question is. You’re paying for your DC accommodation (halls rent I assume) plus phone, and want to know how much to give them for living expenses on top?

For my kids at uni they get minimum maintenance loan which is £4900/ year and we pay rent and phone bill. This gives them roughly £115/ week for the 42 weeks they’re away, for food, socialising, books, travel etc. they work through summer.

Usually if the parents are paying accommodation, the student is expected to live on the minimum loan as a PP suggests.

£100+ pw should be fine for food and socialising. If they need a lot more they could maybe get a pt job, which is not a bad idea anyway.

I think the ££ for food depends depends; DD veggie light eater spent a lot less pw than DS2 meat-eater, protein fan, v sporty and focused on nutrition. But £30-50 for food seems about right.

We paid DDs rent (catered) and phone and expected her to use her loan for everything else.
She had a credit card linked to ours for emergencies and/or if she needed any equipment or books or similar or wanted to come home on the train
