Too early for a Medicine 2027 thread?

Just wondered if there was any interest in a medicine 2027 thread for those of us with YP going into year 12 who plan to apply for medicine? I've seen one or two lurking previously and will try to tag if I can find their user names. Just conscious that I am always posting on the 2026 thread, yet DD is a year behind them and so my comments aren't so relevant.

Please come and join me here if you are interested.

@mumsneedwine I just had a thought - how do UCAT know who to send UCAT scores to? I’m not aware of DD sharing her UCAT number on her UCAS form. Do the unis just provide student name and DOB (maybe address to?) to UCAT and they try to match to the student?

Presumably this is why there is a delay between submitting UVAS and the unis getting the UCAT scores, because the
unis have to provide a list of people they want scores for and UCAT then have to collate the responses for them?

Universities/ucat do a name matching exercise and for those they can’t find - they ask the candidate for their ucat number and have access to a database where they can search for results.

As has been beautifully explained, UCAT and ucas match up with each other and results are sent to the Unis, probably late next week

Regarding interview prep…the prep my child did was a couple of MMI sessions. One was organised by his school (we were pleasantly surprised) and he attended 2 run by various societies from universities nearby (both of which he didn’t apply to). Of the 4 interviews he received, 2 weren’t MMI if I remember correctly (Southampton and Bart’s). So it’s about prepping for the types of interviews. He also practised with his fellow medic applicants from his school (state school).

I’d say doing some mock MMI would help because it’s the time element as well as content. Being able to speak to strangers is definitely a boost, but it’s also about being able to articulate it in 3-5 min and getting to the point, so the STAR method is usually recommended.

My DC used UCAT people last year for mock MMIs and found them very helpful. They got 3/4 offers from interviews. They were less expensive than some of the others. Good luck

The stuff I've sent is free. Lots of great advice and model answers for various stations. I'd not bother paying as if you have a few basic ideas for each potential topic all you need to do is talk. Practice talking to strangers is best advice - it's why customer facing jobs are so useful.
