My DD was super disappointed with her history grade D today. She doesn’t need the grades as has secured an apprenticeship in the city (starts Tuesday) but I do share her frustration. She came straight out of results and emailed her history teacher and along with the ‘gutted for you I know how much effort you made’ he also sent this poem, and I just wanted to offer it to anyone else who maybe was disappointed today because it really is thought provoking:

“To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.”

When my own DD graduated she was told to make a difference. If your DD follows this advice she will make a positive one too
