Hi everyone,

I have an interview for a PGCE next week and they have asked me to take with me an academic or employers reference. Since i would be amature student if i got accepted i couldn't get an academinc reference so it would have to be an employers reference.

However, i do not want work to know about my aplication cos if i don't get accepted i do not want them to think i am not serious about my job and am just passing the time etc until i get something else sorted etc

Help!! How can i get around this??

Ring the Uni and explain circumstances. Ask if they will accept a personal reference instead and when you get accepted, sort the employers one out.
Good luck (I did a PGCE and its HARD work!).

Well when we in Uni it was your usual 9 - 4ish. In school was 8 til 5 (at the school. I always did a good few hours every night either way. It was absolutely exhausting but a good year to prepare you for being a 'real' teacher. And I have to say it was worth every second - I love my job! (I am now mum to 2 dc but still working 1.5 days a week. The holidays are BRILLIANT too!). . Let me know how you get on!

I didn't get an academic reference for my PGCE since my degree was ancient history by then. I can only really remember getting a single employer/personal reference. I am guessing that I must have given two, but can't for the life of me remember from whom.

When I returned to teaching after a very, very long maternity break, I only gave personal references and that was fine.

They really only want to check the right boxes.
