First year results

Not sure anyone remembers my DS’s long journey to get to Loughborough but the short version of it is that he was rejected initially with predicted AAA but was always his dream Uni. Got AAB on results day but only a couple of marks off the elusive A Star AA so we got papers reviewed and they’d miscounted the marks (yes I didn’t believe it either!) so he ended up with A star AA. The subject he got the A star in, he had to self teach himself the whole of Y13 as they had no teacher.
He took a Gap year and worked full time and ended up going to Loughborough last September.
He got his First Year results today and he got a massive 78% which is on track for a high First.
I cannot express how incredibly proud I am of him. He was so right to hold onto his dream and try again.

Fantastic. If I recall he had a tough start to life, and is doing brilliantly. And well done to you for encouraging him to follow his dreams.

Yes his start to Uni life wasn’t great, he ended up in a flat with no other First Years which was tough. But he’s made some brilliant friends and had a great first year.
Thank you, I just wanted to give some hope to show that even though the YP might get rejected initially and they might not get the results they wanted on results day there is always a chance to get to where they want to go.

Well done to him, sounds like Lboro is lucky to have him. Hope he continues to enjoy it and do well.

I remember your story! So glad that it has worked out : )

That’s good news and the fact it didn’t come easy shows he has resilience. Also a years work experience is always helpful.

I remember you posting and his initial teething troubles (was he struggling to get into a football team?) Well done that’s a fantastic yr1 result.

Great news!

Congrats to him.

I also remember, OP. This is great news. Thanks for catching us up and congratulations to DS

Yes, he couldn’t play football at all at the start which was tough.
But he ended up coaching instead and has been asked to do it again next year. Sometimes everything happens for a reason!

I remember your DS’s admission story and the difficult start once he got there. So pleased he had a good year once he got settled and did so well.

Great news! As I just posted on another thread, degree classification is new to me and other than I know it helps with graduate schemes I don’t really understand the importance of it - there aren’t the same classifications where I got my degree.
My stepson was happy with his 2:1 a decade ago and had done very well since, but I know my DD is very anxious to get a first and was happy to get that her first year too (she’s at Durham).
Hope he continues his success at Loughborough!
