Hi. Does anyone know how bad an EMA with the Open University has to be to fail it? I've submitted, but I'm not happy with it. Many thanks

A pass is 40%. Every TMA and EMA tells you what is required for each grading band.

MissyPants · 28/05/2025 23:30

Yeah I know that, sorry I should have specified.
I'm more looking for answers content wise.
maybe a tutor will see my post. I'm a L3 student

What subject area?

Gdrhbxfhcg · 29/05/2025 00:47

And have you been given a marking criteria? I've had one for mine but I don't think all courses do that

Shivvy1 · 29/05/2025 01:15

If you havent answered the question, gone off topic, not used relevant material, poor references etc you will score poorly

MissyPants · 29/05/2025 06:11

Forensic psychology.
yeah I have a marking criteria, I just can't work it out. Maybe it's not so bad, guess I'll find out in July.

Resubmission is usually permitted - if I recall rightly there is still a banding it needs to hit for this though eg under 25 was no resubmission possible on a course I once worked on. Look at the marking criteria/ rubric
ultimately you’re going to have to wait it out…
worst case scenario is retaking the module I imagine, depends on the weighting of the EMA and options on your course perhaps.
student support are usually pretty good at explaining options if you email them

It's impossible to say from the information you've given. Much better to contact your tutor or course director.

ItTook9Years · 29/05/2025 17:45

Did you not attend or watch any tutorials? They usually spell out what is expected, even at level 3.

Gdrhbxfhcg · 29/05/2025 21:21

When is it due in @MissyPants ? Is it too late to have another go.

Gdrhbxfhcg · 29/05/2025 21:23

General things such as not backing up/justifying your answers and not referring to the concepts learnt in the module will lose you marks.

I'm in STEM so can't offer anything more specific sorry

Thank you everyone, it's ok, I got in touch with my tutor, it's all good

Hi all, just an update. I had no reason to worry, I did really well on it and got a distinction 🤩

Well done!

Thank you! So proud of myself 🤗

@MissyPants I was always worried about my EMAs but they were always reasonable (never good enough for a Distinction though). Just stick to the word count. If you have to “flower it out” then you know it’s not right!
I often had conniptions about my TMAs/EMAs but none of them failed.
