Clearing question

Hi does anyone know if you can apply through clearing if you have not done a icas form - so no personal statement or anything.
My DS says he doesn't want to go to uni and hasn't register with UCAs but what happens on results day if he changes his mind??

Yes he can apply without having applied prior. The uni I’ll ask him for stuff which may include something like a PS. Or not.

Thanks bubby, so he would just ring round universities on the day? I don't think he is going to buy you never know!

I think you need to have completed a UCAS application to use Clearing - you certainly always used to.

Comefromaway · 15/05/2025 10:23

He will need to fill out a form. He can certainly contact the universities prior to that to see the liklihood of being offered a place in Clearing but will need to do the form.

If he hasn’t applied yet he should look out for early clearing. Dine unis that know they’ll have spaces come results day publish early clearing and accept applications

oh. I’ve just reread your post. Ignore my post here!

Yes he can start the process ie calling to collect offers but to progress through the system he will need to create a UCAS Account and application so that he can add his eventual ‘clearing choice’ to his form. We used to advise people on the Clearing hotlines to just do the minimum required ie. No personal statement, education, employment or extra activities sections. Just the basic details. At that stage it was just so a record could be generated that we could pick up at our end. It could be worth doing the leg work of this in advance so you’re not having to do it on results day itself.

However as has been suggested he need not wait until clearing. Many places are still available now!

Mumteedum · 15/05/2025 18:04

I would ring round now. We're still taking late applicants. Numbers are down.

Depends on the uni and course obviously but definitely worth doing.

Is call direct to admissions teams.

Could he use Ucas Extra to get an application in, or wait until after July 5th for Clearing.
