Manchester Student Accommodation

Hi all, I’m looking for affordable student accommodation in Manchester ( under £200 a week). It’s for a degree course that is delivered by a newer institution so the accommodation can’t be of a proprietary nature ( as in linked specifically to a University). I just want to hear anything you care to share about finding affordable accommodation, near the city centre transport links. It’s for a first year.
yes: I am contacting the deliverer of the course for info too
no: you may not have heard of the institution yet ( it’s a creative one)
yes: I am trying students room too.

Please, unless you are actually going to share something helpful about finding accommodation, please scroll on. This is not my first rodeo, I have another child at uni already, I do not need snotty comments or schooling in asking questions. ( can you tell I have encountered some less than helpful people recently) Thank you for reading this far.

I will answer despite your abrasive tone 😊

Manchester Student Accommodation 2025/26 on Facebook is imvho your best bet (see photo).

as it is not your first rodeo I assume you have contacted the very many private halls in Manchester.

i hope your dc finds something they like.

Where in Manchester is the course and therefore where does your young person want to live?

clary · 23/03/2025 12:16

I posted on your other thread OP, and I apologise if it was my comment you found snotty. I was merely trying to make clear to you (in case you don't post here often) that you might not get a lot of responses and why. Sorry if that was unhelpful.

StrivingForSleep · 23/03/2025 12:27

@clary I wouldn’t worry, it is probably aimed at me. Asking one question to clarify the situation is seen as making ‘unhelpful contributions’ or trying to ‘school’ the OP who thinks asking one question means I find her ‘request frustrating’ or ‘not meeting your [my] standards’ when all I was doing was asking one question to clarify one part of her post before replying fully.

dermalermalurd · 23/03/2025 17:02

@StretfordEndhi, thanks for replying. His course is spinningfields area ( quay street /new quay street ) so away from the other uni’s I can see but I understand the public transport is really good.

@KittyMcKittythank you for the fb site, that is helpful. Nothing abrasive was intended. My other child is in a different city, I just meant that my question was specific to this situation and not general uni accommodation. Appreciate you taking the time.

no, your comment was not snotty, or it didn’t seem like it. I have been away from MN for a while but I was on here for many years before. Lots has changed, much really hasn’t. 🙂

Ideally you probably want private halls rather than a shared house for first year. There's a lot round the Salford quays area, or in the city centre.

KittyMcKitty · 23/03/2025 17:15

@dermalermalurd having read your other post and now see where the uni is my personal feelings fwiw is that you’d be better off looking in the Salford area rather then the Oxford Rd side - whilst public transport is frequent coming from the Oxford Rd side woukd probably mean changing to get to where your dc’s uni is.

there are a million different private halls - so not “belonging” to any uni - these may be your better option is your dc needs an accessible room? I know they are plentiful but my dc have not used them either in Manchester or elsewhere.

dermalermalurd · 23/03/2025 17:37

@KittyMcKittycheers for that, I’ll have a look

@Hercisback1its not PA, it’s just trying to help people not to waste their time on info I already have. Thank you for your advice.

There are many private halls in the Salford area, I understand. For second year and onwards there are also several estate agents who specialise in rentals for students and make it easy for them such as https://www.drakes.co.uk
or https://www.manchesterstudenthomes.com/Accommodation
Being close to the tram network would be great as it's so easy to get around that way. BUs network is also fairly comprehensive.

I should add that YP was in catered hall in first year - about £170 pw. For second year it is £168 pw including all bills. so I think it's relatively easy to find something under £200 pw.
