Southampton
Sussex
Nottingham

For zoology.

Southampton and Nottingham slightly higher in league tables but DC loved Sussex (and Brighton) the most when we visited.

Southampton

Sussex - although slightly biased as my son did his degree and doctorate there and now lectures in maths.

However we did a "Hawk Walk" at a local bird sanctuary - our guide was a recent Sussex zoology graduate who spoke very highly of his time there.

RanchRat · 30/01/2025 12:15

Sussex, because Brighton.

murasaki · 30/01/2025 12:18

I'd pick Sussex. But it depends what the offers are, no point picking a higher offer as insurance.

CurlewKate · 30/01/2025 13:17

In order-
Sussex
Nottingham
Southampton

They are all good universities-this is just based on which are the nicer places to spend 3 years.

NetballHoop · 30/01/2025 13:31

It depends a bit on where you live. I'd chose Nottingham if it was me but at least partly so as to put a decent dstance between me and my parents (who I get on really well with).

How lovely! (The Sussex hawk graduate!)

Yes, that's very important.

We are not in the UK so they are all far away - but Sussex Uni the most easily accessible.

Both Southampton and Nottingham are excellent universities and the cities are also good places to spend three years. Nottingham has a beautiful campus and more choice of accommodation in my opinion and is very friendly. Southampton is close to nice places like the New Forest and West Quay shops are nice. These two unis are amongst the best for the range of student societies. If you are planning to visit your DC it is a lot cheaper to stay in Nottingham as the uni has two conference hotels on campus with good rates for parents. Southampton tends to be expensive for Saturday night stays due to the cruise departures I think. NB I don’t know about Zoology specifically but these are my thoughts on the unis and cities. I don’t know much about uni of Sussex as it does not offer the courses my dc applied for.

Snowmanscarf · 31/01/2025 13:56

Sussex, because that’s the one dc felt happiest at.

100PercentFaithful · 31/01/2025 16:36

Southampton because it’s a really fab city for students. Small, safe, by the sea, affordable, well regarded, good theatre, good shopping centre, nice oaths, nice campus.

Thank you all!!
