How much per week for basic living expenses?

DC gets min maintenance loan, 3k short of the cost of the rent in halls. We'll cover this.

We want to give something towards living costs, but with two younger children still at home, we don't want to set this at an unsustainable level. DC has had a year out (wasn't ready/didn't know what they wanted to study in Y13) through which has worked and has plenty of money saved up.

Basic weekly food shop @ £35, term time + monthly phone @ £10 - sound ok?

Timetable is full on but will definitely pick up the odd hospitality shift I would hope

Yes, that sounds more than reasonable to me.
My current student has £45 pw (which I keep going Sept to end of June) but she pays own phone. We pay difference between basic loan and the rent. So very similar to you.
