Adding Universities after submitting UCAS

Does anyone know if you can submit the UCAS form with fewer than 5 courses and then go in and add the remainder later?

The reason is that DC is planning to apply to Oxford so has to get the form in early but wants to go back to a couple of open days to narrow down the other choices (and I suppose if they don't get an Oxford interview might also want to play the others safer!). Unfortunately at least one of the open days is after the school wants the form submtted.

As one point in the UCAS site it seems to say this is fine so I think this is OK https://www.ucas.com/file/130391/download?token=oeEZRiu_

But then this bit could be read as saying you can only add more courses through 'Extra' which is only available after 26 Feb, which would be very late and after the equal consideration deadlne. https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/after-you-apply/making-changes-your-application-after-you-apply#university-or-college

Yes you can. Schools apparently are not keen but as long as you a) have no more than five unis and b) finalise your choices before the January deadline it is fine. An Oxford application seems to me a very good reason as well.

Thanks very much. The info on the UCAS website seems very confusing on this!

Agree, my son did this; he only put three courses down eventually, between the early deadline and Christmas. There was a slight issue involving pretests that the unis he added would consider if they knew you'd sat them (generally assumed if your application was before the oxbridge deadline) - but that was solved by messaging them at some point. I believe the UCAS fee is less if you are only putting one course down, so you may have to top it up to the "normal" amount when adding others later.

Def not a problem. My DD did an oxbridge application along with 2 others in oct. Then added another early Jan and the final one end of Jan just before the deadline. Got offers from all and it was helpful to be able to put the final one in knowing she already had a couple of offers.

Thanks very much for this, that's reassuring.
