@Malbecfan Thank you from here too and likewise good luck to your DD. Our DS commences Finals on Monday at C and we too are uncertain whether he will be doing a 4th year. We know he'd like to so it is Good Luck from us - and to yours @PermanentTemporary! Our DS has worked hard for it as an undergraduate but enjoyed it all thoroughly, nonetheless. After results he is off to play Tennis for C at the Varsity match - then home for a bit, at a guess.

AlsoAnon · 06/06/2025 21:11

My DS1 has finished all his exams and coursework… what a relief. Thus his formal education is finally over.

DD2 has finished her coursework and written exams; she’s done one recital and has one final recital to go then she’s finished too. I’ll be going to the recital as I did for the previous one; it’s a privilege to actually be there for one of her finals but a bit too nerve-wracking to be fully enjoyable!

Fond waves and thanks to @Malbecfan and @AsTearsGoBy for all their helpful advice over the years.

Juja · 07/06/2025 19:23

@Malbecfan and @AsTearsGoBy well done to you as you have finished navigating uni years and of course you are always welcome to drop in.

@Clemenc0 congrats to your DS being in the Varsity Team - best for the match

@AlsoAnon sounds as though your DS1 and DD2 are well on their way - hope they enjoy the next steps of life.

pepperaunt · 09/06/2025 17:30

Best of luck to your DD @Malbecfan , I think ours are at the same college.
DD had her last two exams today (integrated Masters). Then it’s off to Boston for DNiece’s wedding (she passed her Viva last week and is frantically catching up on wedding “stuff”) then back for graduation. After graduation DD is off to Germany for a lacrosse tournament. Busy next few weeks!

I’m a bit vague @AlsoAnon and also a bit shy of asking ds as he will only graduate this year if he doesn’t get the results he needs… but he has bought tickets so I would guess timings are on those. Though thinking about it I could ring the porters lodge?

AsTearsGoBy · 14/06/2025 20:54

Yikes at having to fit in another big family celebration the same day 😮

Chouffles · 14/06/2025 22:00

Can anyone with a DC at Cambridge tell me roughly when first year exam results tend to come out (essay subject)? Thank you

PettsWoodParadise · 14/06/2025 22:20

@Chouffles DD got her results in Y1 just before mid July. She is told results for her Y2 exams will be ‘by 12 July if I remember correctly. I am quite surprised how quick they are but then final year students are often graduating by end of June / first week of July so results for them are even sooner I am supposing.

PettsWoodParadise · 14/06/2025 22:22

P.s @Chouffles Y1 exams didn’t ’count’ for DD, don’t know if it is the same for all essay based subjects.

AsTearsGoBy · 14/06/2025 22:27

They don't count towards the final degree result but they can be critical for applications for internships in the second year vac, also for final degree predictions for job applications generally.

Chouffles · 14/06/2025 23:33

Thanks @PettsWoodParadise sounds like bang in the middle of our holiday. Oh well 😬!!!

AlsoAnon · 14/06/2025 23:40

It’s a milestone wedding anniversary @AsTearsGoBy so I think will have to be a moveable feast!

AlsoAnon · 14/06/2025 23:45

@PermanentTemporary fingers crossed!

Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone who lives near ish by had a student commuting to Oxford?
Also an article has come out about poor mental health if Oxford students

Dearover · 22/06/2025 11:29

You're expected to live in & I think it would probably be a very disappointing 3 or 4 years if you didn't.

DD started in the covid years. The MH and wellbeing support she received, including paying for a ND diagnosis and helping her move back into college unexpectedly in her final year was outstanding. No complaints here, although there will always be some issues at EVERY university due to the sheer volume of young people leaving home for the first time in a high pressure environment. Poor mental health and wellbeing affects a huge number of young people, regardless of academic ability or background.

ShawnsLeftEyebrow · 22/06/2025 12:47

Living out throughout would mean missing out on a huge part of university life, more so than for other universities. It's a possibility for the second year, though.

My student kiddo would certainly agree that Oxford has a high proportion of the highly strung, and possibly also a higher than average proportion of (diagnosed and undiagnosed) neurodiversity. It took some getting used to, for a student who's permanently surprised to have got in and probably sits further towards the 'life' end of the work-life balance.

But what's the article?

Dearover · 22/06/2025 13:58

It must be time for someone to start the traditional 2026/27 applicant's thread. Disappearing back to my postgrad world, as DD will finish at the end of the summer.

AlsoAnon · 22/06/2025 14:08

I’m not volunteering to start the thread although DS2 will be applying. Gulp.

Dearover · 22/06/2025 14:15

They usually run to 4 - 5 threads by the time they actually get there. This one is really for the parents of current students (& a fewbof us keeping up with the adventures of familiar names) wittering about varsity matches, rowing, music, exams etc.

AlsoAnon · 22/06/2025 15:26

@Dearover yes indeed. I have older ones who are current and former students.

AsTearsGoBy · 22/06/2025 15:58

Is DS2 hoping to follow in his sisters' direction geographically or his brother's?

I do hope it works out.

Dearover · 22/06/2025 17:21

Sorry! Didn't spot the name & was distracted by another post

AlsoAnon · 22/06/2025 17:43

@Dearover no worries!
@AsTearsGoBy his sisters’. He wants to apply for Maths so he’s aware that the odds are against him. But there are lots of good options outside O and C of course.
