Laptop choice for uni

It's been a while since mine went. What laptops are you getting for your uni students? Budget isn't big enough for a MacBook. It's not a course that will be doing complicated things online except essays/online lectures.

DD has a MacBook

DS has an HP which he chose and it's been excellent

Probably best to set a budget and keep an eye on deals websites. (i use hotukdeals)

They should have access to studentbeans, prime student for discounts.

Most important thing to decide usability is screen size, getting an i5 or ryzen 7 processor and 16gb ram should ensure it lasts the duration of their course.

^ Agree with this. It's tempting to rush out and buy now, but as soon as they/you have a student e-mail address (i.e. a uni e-mail) then they/you will be able to get some good offers and discounts from Microsoft, Apple, Dell, etc. Most of the big companies do offers for students.
