A level results day 2024

How’s everyone else feeling about results day? I’ve got one at uni already and 2nd dd hoping to go to Kent in September. She seems ok about it at the moment although think that will change as it gets closer. Me I’m so keeping my fingers crossed she gets what she wants, I know there will always be other options but she loved the open day. Going to struggle with this one going though as it has been a real journey to get to where she is.

Congratulations to everyone whose DD or DS met their offers. Praying that those that missed find a place where they will be happy and excel. My DD missed her Cambridge offer by 3 marks. However, she met her UCL offer which is her insurance for BSc Economics. She got 89% in Further maths and got an A but requires 90% to make A star and in her raw score that equates to 3 marks off. Asking 90% for A star in Further maths is ridiculous. We thank God ang give HIM all the glory. God knows best! My DD is taking it well.

Msmumm · 15/08/2024 09:36

DS got into his first choice with 3 A stars and an A. So flipping happy and proud of him. He worked his socks off for this.

@bunnylake oh no hope ots better than you think. I'm sire he will tell you when he's ready but for now coffee gin and something to distract 💐

He got his insurance! I’m actually really happy about it as I prefer it. He’s fine as well as he couldn’t make up his mind between the two, so just put the higher entry one as first choice. I’m feeling really relieved as it’s closer to home, easier to get to and the campus is lovely.

stoneysongs · 15/08/2024 09:38

@ZiriForGood
They have to wait for their results before they can start the clearing process so yes, schools that don't open until later do disadvantage their students, although I think this is less common than it used to be. Many do make results available by email or portal instead of / as well as in person.

Timeturnerplease · 15/08/2024 09:38

Clicked on this thread out of interest as I’m a teacher, but all the parents on here are making me realise that
y parents must have been much less chilled than they let on when my siblings and I got our respective results!

DDs are 5 and 3 so have a while to go till we get there, but I’m now wondering if the A Level years might be more stressful than the baby ones.

Wasn't great news here! That bloody physics! Everyone struggled this year.

Didn't get the grades for the offer. B B D- does this translate into ucas points or do we just go to the clearing sites now??

Were they actually declined, though? That's what counts, not the grades.

whereisthelifethatirecognize · 15/08/2024 09:42

JeromeKJerome · 15/08/2024 08:28

UCAS says got 1st choice but insurance has emailed with congratulations- you have a place. Not had email from 1st choice. I assume UCAS is correct?

Check spam. Check everything. Call the Uni if you have nothing from them.

Which universities guarantee accommodation for students (thinking Bristol, Bath, Nott'ham, Southampton....)?

Lancaster do

whereisthelifethatirecognize · 15/08/2024 09:42

Her friend group have all agreed not to tell each other until 9am, in case any of them need to begin the clearing process.

What a great group of sensible friends.

My son didn’t get the points he needed for his degree apprenticeship. I’m heartbroken for him as he worked so bloody hard.

That happened to one of my brilliant, lovely niece 2 years ago. Missed by 1 grade and she lost it; brutal competition.

That said, she is genuinely living her best life right now.

There are other fantastic opportunities out there for them. There really are.

Brilliant you must feel very relieved

It is absolutely ridiculous. Unfortunately, it's also the only way Cambridge can distinguish amongst their very, very stellar applicants and get their 'offer' number down to their 'admission' number.

DD needed AAA to meet her offer at University of York.

Her grades were BBC but she still got in to York! We're all gobsmacked but very happy

Well done to your DD. and hope she has a great time there

Feel like that's going to be a quite widespread experience today, judging by what's on offer in clearing.

That's marvellous! 😁

Lower than expected grades here (B's & C's) so DS down but not out as he's still got his place at Cardiff Met. What a bloody relief.
Congrats to all and good luck to everyone going through clearing and rethinking their options.
Some lovely posts on this thread offering hope when things don't go as expected, so thank you all for those 🙏- I think we needed to hear them!
Be back here for DS2 next year! 😬

Frightenedbunny · 15/08/2024 10:04

Thank you @whereisthelifethatirecognize needing some positivity right now.

im a firm believer everything happens for a reason. Just finding it hard to remain upbeat for him while it feels like his future has been pulled from under his feet. Stupid I know.

Niminy · 15/08/2024 10:04

I can't say this anywhere else (have public role so really wary of posting on social media): DS2 got 3 x A* and is going to Oxford! I'm so so proud of him. We've moved schools a lot, and by and large he's been to non-outstanding schools. He's just worked really hard and, well, he's great.

Thank you. We're really surprised! She's bright and works hard but she struggles badly with exam pressure. She literally left each exam in tears so we didn't think she'd get into York!

My DD's best friend was discouraged by her teachers from applying to York though because she wasn't expecting high enough grades, she's fuming now that she didn't apply aswell because she's got higher grades than my dd!

QueenMabby · 15/08/2024 10:06

DS not got his firm. Only dropped one grade. He's gutted.

Doesn't want his insurance and has a verbal offer from his original second choice uni which is good. They said they'd email him with next steps. Is there anything we need to do in clearing or anything? Offer made over the phone at 8.15 but no email yet.

Thank you. Very happy. Is he supposed to confirm acceptance? It says congratulations etc but there no ‘accept’ button?

That's amazing! Huge congratulations to your family! He must have worked his butt off to achieve what he has, so we'll done him 🥳

Has your friend had a look at clearing? She can ring around without declining her existing offer.

They can go through 'Adjustment' if they want to try for a 'better' University.
