Deferring an offer

DS has accepted an offer for September. He now thinks he’d like to defer. Anyone have any experience? Would he be better waiting until he has his grades or should he ask now?

I'd recommend calling the university now (tomorrow) and asking if he can defer.

Depends on the uni/course. He can wait until results day , withdraw from ucas and reapply in autumn if needs be.

Has he applied for a STEM course? Sometimes a deferral for STEM will be discouraged although when there is a plan for keeping up Maths this is becoming more flexible. (I was a STEM admissions tutor who thought the applicant generally knew best, with the Maths proviso.)

A decision can’t be made on a deferral request until results are known. It is cleanest to wait and see whether DS meets his offer, then decide how to proceed.
