Degree apprenticeship applications

DS applied to a number of Degree Apprenticeships Dec/Jan, he passed online assessments/interview and all said would be in touch, at this point the applications were open until end of Feb so didn’t expect to hear until March at the earliest, only 1 has been in touch to say all successful assessment applications will undergo a selection process. He has heard nothing from the others, these are for September starts, I would like to think the very least he would get is an email to say he hadn’t made the further selection process. Do they really take that long, these are all from reputable engineering companies.

We can all only guess at the number of applicants relative to open roles but the number of applications to be sifted is likely to be huge. Some Early Years Recruitment teams are organised and well resourced, others are not. Later stages of recruitment, such as assessment centres and interviews (particularly if in-person) are major nationwide logistical exercises if they involve senior operational staff (as they often do).

I am saying all this as a preamble to flagging that some organisations may be very slow in moving through the various stages and, once they do, give you limited notice to prepare for the next hurdle. It is not great but can be the reality, so best to be mentally prepared for that. Occasional proactive contact with/prompting of the recruitment function may be necessary (a useful life skill); perhaps also encourage your DS to monitor relevant threads on The Student Room.

Hope that helps in some small way. Best of luck to your DS. No news if good news at this stage.

The other, hopefully obvious, point is encourage your DS to check - on a very regular basis - the spam folder of the email account linked to his various applications just in case replies drop in there.

He can also look at The Student Room threads from last year to see what the timing of the various stages was for the relevant programmes at that time; no guarantee it will be the same this year but is more potential useful info.

My daughter applied 2 years ago to PWC and Deloitte and the communication from them was appalling. She phoned and emailed a few times and eventually gave up. Such disappointing service from these companies. She eventually heard from them months after the supposed date
