Teaching A level over 1 year

My son started studying A levels last September. In the college he goes to they teach the 2 year syllabus over 1 year then spend the second year refining exam technique

He says they go through a new area so quickly he doesn't have time to write anything down, then has to answer exam questions on it

He is very bright & driven but this teaching style isn't working for him. His stress levels are high & he has to teach himself subjects himself in his own time which means he has little time for himself

Has anyone elses child experienced this & did it work out in the end?

I never taught A level like that.

Exam questions throughout the entire 2 years. Big push on exam questions and finishing syllabus after Xmas before exams. There was no way l could have squeezed all the syllabus into 1 year
