Dd is going for a semester next week until August.
Has anyone or their Dc been or have any experience of this uni.

The town sounds lovely and am looking forward to a visit!

Lucky dd! Heidelberg is a very old and prestigious uni, and the town is wonderful. She will have a great time!

CadyEastman · 10/03/2024 07:37

How is she getting on @Maggiethecat?

ErnestTheBavarian · 10/03/2024 07:55

I have 2 sons there. Lovely town.

She’s doing language immersion classes before course classes start in a few weeks.
Has made friends and has discovered the night life so guess she’s doing well!

Sounds like she's having a great time Wink

She sent me pics of perfectly blue skies and says it’s warmer than here.
Defo looking at a visit 😂

Update - just returned from a lovely visit. Weather was hot and bright and it was just as quaint as I expected.
Dd is almost finished there and says she was so glad she did.

So glad your DD enjoyed Heidelberg! It was my fantasy university: not under consideration for boring reasons, but I would have loved to have gone there

Maggiethecat · 15/08/2024 12:46

I didn’t know much about it or how reputable it was before Dd expressed an interest.
I can see how much she’s matured and developed in the semester away.
And it was cheaper living there!! 😂

Cannot get my head round rent of 300 euros per month bills included! She’ll be paying £800 pm when she returns to Bristol 😢

@Maggiethecat can I ask if her German was good before she went?
My DD is really interested in a semester there but her German would need a lot of work to be able to study in it.

Maggiethecat · 15/08/2024 21:17

@MiseryIn - not at all, in fact it was non existent! She did a
month of language immersion before the start of her course (English) which was taught in English.

Not sure if the teaching language is course dependent but I’d say make enquiries and go for it if she’s really keen.

I did my Erasmus year abroad at Heidelberg Uni! It was honestly one of the best years of my life - so much to do and see, plus everyone I met was super lovely. Really safe too.

My German was B2 level but they offer language classes after uni to help (ranging from complete beginner to fluent).

Would 100% recommend Heidelberg - fantastic place to study.

Great lido in Heidelberg if she hasn't found it yet

Maggiethecat · 17/08/2024 23:16

She has and we were supposed to go with her when I visited but instead went up to Thingstatte, the open air theatre built by the third Reich.

I’d visit again!
