Cambridge PG interview on Friday, will it just be one interview?

Email says it will be a casual 20 min chat. Is this just round one and there will be further interviews or will they make a decision after one?

Dd hasn’t done any research about Cambridge specific interviews but can happily talk the hind leg off a donkey about her subject. Will they ask odd, non subject related type questions?

What are you using 'PG' to mean? Postgraduate? In that case I would imagine it's a causal 20 minute chat to see if the potential supervisor gets on with her, but it'll be separate from applications/funding questions.

Yes, postgrad for a Masters course. She’s googled and read conflicting stuff about how many interviews.

DS has received a conditional (PhD) offer. The selection process included one video chat (less than half an hour) with two members of the research group about the work they are doing and where DS's research interests lie. DS said it was quite relaxed / informal.

I would think that, if they're saying this is an informal chat, it's not the formal interview that has a bearing on her application. But she ought to know where she stands - if she's really not clear, she needs to email back and ask (or look at the info online - there's tons but it is subject specific, so no point anyone trying to summarise for you).

It surprises me it might be round one - quite a few subjects will have closed applications by now. I would expect a casual chat to happen either earlier (for prospective students, prior to a formal application) or later (after a successful application, when student are being matched up with supervisors).

Thank you. Well done to your ds.

Applications closed mid Dec, her application was submitted early Dec. From what we’ve read Feb interviews for postgraduate courses seems fairly standard. Maybe she’d have been interviewed earlier if she’d submitted in November, but fingers crossed they still have space.
