Scottish maintenance loan practicalities

My DS will be entitled to the minimum undergraduate maintenance loan from Scotland’s SAAS, looks like it’s now £8400 this year. But there doesn’t seem to be much information to help us plan for how much will be paid and when. Wondering if anyone who’s been in receipt of this for their DC can advise?

Is the loan paid monthly over 12 months and how much is actually paid each month? Does it still get paid over 12 months if you get a double payment on the first month? Or does it then get paid over 11 months? Does it work the same for subsequent years? Are the payments generally on time or are they prone to delay?

I’ve tried to google a sample payment schedule but there doesn’t seem to be anything available.

If anyone has any experience that would be so helpful!

The Scottish maintenance loan is paid monthly on the 7th of the month according to the SAAS website, however there’s not much more information than that!

Its going up £2400 pa next year. I think monthly with first a double payment.

Yes it’s going to be £8400 but I don’t know when the first and subsequent payments, nor how many, are made.

Ah, I see thanks. Does that mean 2 of 11 payments in September and then 9 of 11 paid over remaining months to June? Does the double payment happen each year or just first year?

not a clue! my DD starts this year so very new to all this. This is the sample one I found - really bad quality sorry
