Sutton Trust Pathways & contextual offers

My daughter did pathways to law and was told if she completed it with good attendance then she would receive a contextual offer from the university.

She had an offer but it's the standard offer - has this happened elsewhere?

Is there anything in the offer which says they will reduce it if she firms it?

Blushingm · 21/01/2024 17:47

No - it looks like a standard email

I wonder if she's been eligible for a standard offer, and may then get the contextual offer later? I seem to have heard of offers "improving" gradually over time, eg the option of dropping a grade with a good EPQ result was only communicated down the track from an initial offer.

Good luck to your daughter, hope she gets onto the course she wants one way or another!

it won’t have flagged properly with her application, happens quite frequently with pathways. Contact her Pathways coordinator and they’ll get it sorted for her.

@Pythonesque thank you!

@Bunnyannesummers have you heard of it happening before?

There have been quite a few people having to contact unis to get grade reductions eg for epqs, so I think the dots don't always join up. Get your child to email the uni too

All the time! It’s a really annoying issue with the programme - I don’t work on it so I’m not sure why but it drives colleagues mad and there’s no immediate fix as far as we know.
Get her to email her pathways coordinator, if she’s applied at her home institution they can pop a message to admissions and get it sorted in a day or so. If she’s applied to another institution, her coordinator can message the coordinator at the other place to get them to sort - will take a few days longer but she’ll get her reduced offer. Make sure she’s taking advantage of any of the Y13 offerings from Pathways as well!

@ @Bunnyannesummers thanks, it's her home uni so hopefully it will be simple to sort out.

She had 100% attendance plus she did their summer school. She actually really enjoyed it all

Thank you

@Blushingm ah it’ll be really easily sortable then! Good luck to her with her degree
