Ah. Ok. That’s good to know.
My dd has an offer from Exeter which is AAA but AAB if A in EPQ but doesn’t state that she would need to firm that to get the offer. Does anyone know of that is the case, as with Sheffield?

mumsneedwine · 13/03/2024 21:08

No need to firm. The offer is AAB with the EPQ.

Don't firm the non medicine !!! With 4 offers she'll likely have a high interview score so more likely to let a dropped grade go.

The is the Sheffield alternative offer with EPQ

Congratulations to @randomactsofkindness dd! Very well done to her.
Congrats to everyone with new offers!

LaMereDuChat · 14/03/2024 11:37

Thanks for the information about choices and insurances - not that it applies this year to us, but I always wondered how that worked with medicine :)

speedyhedgehog · 14/03/2024 16:16

@lamereduchat aren't you still waiting on a decision? Keeping everything crossed if so!

Sybill · 14/03/2024 18:46

Congratulations to your DD @Randomactofkindness - she’s done so well, good for her!!

fingers crossed for your DD @LaMereDuChat - hope she gets some good news soon 🤞

well done on the Birmingham offer too @thillanddale42 - a friend of DDs has a sister there doing med and absolutely loves it!

Sybill · 14/03/2024 18:50

Sorry to hear about the rejection @rosesinmygarden , I hope the waiting list place for Sheffield comes through for her. Great advice to focus as much as possible on A levels now - a friends son had 4 post interview rejections last year, aced his exams and got 2 offers during clearing! So definitely not over by any means 🤞

thillanddale42 · 14/03/2024 22:21

A rejection from KCL but an offer from Manchester tonight. M'chester was his trickiest interview and he was very disheartened when he came out of it. So, you really can't tell. He has really cheered up......

Groundhogday2021 · 15/03/2024 10:59

Well done to your ds on the Manchester offer @thillanddale42 🎉
What a difference a week can make!! 😁

Sybill · 15/03/2024 11:29

Brilliant news @thillanddale42 - well done him!

Is anyone going to the Exeter offer holders day tomorrow? I think there’s quite a few offer holders on the thread (from memory) I’m looking forward to it as I’ve not been yet so excited to see what it’s like!

I think my daughter is going to firm Manchester. I thought the questions were v tricky there but she had three interviews over 2 days and it was the last so she was on a roll I think!
she thought it was super friendly and great facilities
what about your DS ?

Mumofboys2006 · 15/03/2024 12:04

Fab news on all the offers! Our Bham offer is A*AA - so a bit higher than the others…anyone have a different offer from them?

mumsneedwine · 15/03/2024 12:17

@Mumofboys2006 it's their standard offer. Unlikely to get lower unless contextual. No idea why they need that A* when most don't 🤷‍♀️

Well done @thrillanddales ds! Congratulations on his offers

W0tnow · 15/03/2024 14:17

@Sybill we aren’t going. We are Spain based (but she’s a home student). She was dead set on London and only recently flipped to Exeter so we won’t get there. Do report back with what you think!

thillanddale42 · 15/03/2024 14:24

DS is AAA for Manchester and A*AA for B'ham..... sounds standard from what you have below too ? I think Nott'm is usually 3 A's too but that's last one he will hear from. He's keen on B'ham but will go to offer holder days and see how it goes ! So different from last week...... what a painful weekend last weekend was !

Sybill · 15/03/2024 14:31

Will let you know how we get on @W0tnow

Waferbiscuit · 15/03/2024 16:39

BSMS have started sending out applications so am on tenterhooks.

On another note I wonder why universities send out in batches? Sending out to c. 300 isn't difficult to do in a day and surely it's more efficient to have teams doing it in one day than across a number of days?

I used to work with admissions teams and never had a reason to ask them but should have!!

Tripadvice · 15/03/2024 17:37

Anyone for advice on the UCAS extra application process??

dd has no medical offers (but did have bio med and neuroscience offers) and has been really gutted. Had obviously decided to try clearing and then if no luck, have a gap year, gain more experience (she already has some strong work experience), and try again.

However, she’s now seen the ucas extra as an olive branch.

mumsneedwine · 15/03/2024 18:05

@Waferbiscuit some medicine Admin depts are 2 people who work part time. Takes a while to type it all in.

@Tripadvice if he has not got or has rejected all 5 offers he can look at Extra. If medicine comes in, apply straight away - check a couple of times a day as it won't hang around long. Once clearing starts I doubt anything will appear until late July (when Scottish results come out). He can apply for those too. It's tough. But a gap year is no bad thing - time to have fun and earn some money. Feels rough now though.

Thanks @mumsneedwine I didn't know they had to input the data one by one. I imagined a spreadsheet uploaded to a crm system, that kind of thing. Thanks for the insights!

My husband has been telling me how his niece who is doing a nursing degree gets £5k a year from the NHS towards subsistence for her 3 year degree. My husband has therefore assumed that if our daughter does a medicine degree that she will get some funding from the NHS too. I’ve never heard of this and can’t believe they do - can anyone tell me if they do, or is it just nursing?

No. Medical students don't get this.

Thanks for that, I also found the attached which suggests that they don’t need to pay their 5th year of tuition fees and that they can get a £1k grant as part of their “Bursary Award” from 5th year.
