Bath accommodation query?

Just wondered if anyone knows whether if you get an unconditional offer from Bath due to already having results (currently on a Gap Year) whether you’d be able to choose accommodation before results day in August? My DS (and I) have looked on line, asked earlier in the week when we had a campus tour and have also emailed but got no response.
Won’t bore everyone with the whole story again but DS is desperate to go to Loughborough to do Sports Science. He has finally got the grades they ask for after remarks but is also being realistic as to whether he will get offered a place so is also applying to Bath. He absolutely loved the Uni and so did I (apart from the walk up the hill!) but just curious as to whether he would get to pick earlier than others as his place would be unconditional.

My son was in the same position. They all choose at the same time (can't apply early because they already have their grades), and no one has an advantage if they applied before the deadline and have Bath as a firm offer (I think it was 1st July). My son was, however, allocated his room earlier than results day, at the end of July.

Applications for undergraduate student accommodation open on 08 May 2024.

I don’t imagine this is any different if you have already accepted.

Ah thank you, that’s really helpful. So they pick at the same time but it gets allocated earlier? The chap that showed us around on Wednesday said you pick 7(or 10 I can’t remember now!) then you get allocated randomly and he didn’t get any of the ones he chose.
Results day this year was incredibly stressful as were the weeks afterwards trying to sort out remarks so we were going to go away this summer as obviously he won’t need to be here for results day but would be good to get the accomodation sorted before then.

Yes, that's right. If it reassures you, my son got his first choice of accommodation and is very happy at Bath!

No I understand when it opens, I’m trying to work out whether it gets allocated before results day if you have accepted the unconditional offer. Just seems really chaotic the way they explained it on the campus tour, and if they are definitely going then there should be no reason to wait for results day.

Thank you! That’s really reassuring. I’ve heard lots of horror story’s about students not getting any accomodation there and having to defer, he definitely can’t do that after this unexpected gap year so would just like it all sorted way before August!

DS is there, you pick 7 and are allocated randomly.

Top tips are if you want to be on campus do not include any halls in the city in your 7 (there enough choices to do this).

If you firm Bath you get guaranteed accommodation. The nightmare this year has been students who had it as their insurance choice, who despite knowing it wasn't guaranteed were told pretty late (about a week into September) that there was no accommodation at all and by that time there was hardly anything privately, certainly nothing on the bus route for uni.

Thank you. I knew they picked 7 (although the chap that showed us around was talking about 10) but I’m trying to find out if his offer is unconditional which it should be as he’s already got his grades whether they get allocated first. He really doesn’t want to wait until results day to find out his accommodation as in theory they should be able to be allocated earlier. I know some Uni’s do this but I can’t seem to see if that’s the case for Bath. He definitely wants to be on Campus and wants an en suite, there doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of them when we looked around.
He is only applying for Bath and Loughborough.
