Online interviews - what to expect

I might be jumping to gun as ds only just submitted Cambridge application for a STEM subject, but he meets the criteria for an interview so assuming he is called, what does he expect in terms of online interview? Specifically the format/practicalities.

One of the colleges mentioned needing a white board or A3 paper and marker to show workings, which makes sense but he thought there were restrictions on where you can have an interview to avoid getting assistance. No chance of me being able to help if it was at home!

I can't find anything online that gives guidance and his school is pretty inexperienced with Oxbridge applications.

His college will definitely be doing online only interviews.

if he is invited they will give full instructions - each college has a slightly different approach. DD had a whiteboard or paper for her maths interview

Some colleges/interviewers prefer a tablet or ipad so that everyone can write on the same virtual whiteboard (it helps if you can circle something and ask the interviewee "can you tell me where this term came from" or similar).

I have also seen phones balanced on tins acting as visualisers, holding bits of paper to the webcam and standing in front of a flip board. The college should give some more details with the interview invitation.

If your DS applied for maths then check out https://maths.org/step/events for a webinar series about interview prep and Q and A!

This was what I was thinking would happen!

Thanks for the input, much appreciated
