Which unis have not given degree classifications this year?

Due to strike action.

I know about Edinburgh and Cardiff. Any others?

I think it's utterly disgusting the way students at the above have been treated and want to make sure my children avoid applying to these institutions in the next few years.

? I thought pretty much every university was affected by strike action.

SmartHome · 15/07/2023 12:10

But not all have them have givenfinal year students graduating now unclassified degrees surely?

I hadn't realised that any had. Thanks for bringing it to our attention Flowers

MissPop · 15/07/2023 12:20

Are they unclassified though? I’m waiting for mine via the OU but my degree isn’t affected. Other people have been told they will receive their classification but there will be a delay.

Yes it is a problem. I’ve been able to get a graduate role pending my classification but I’ve been lucky. It is frustrating.

Lipolass · 15/07/2023 12:24

Lots of unis are not really affected by this and students are graduating as normal.

calyxx · 15/07/2023 12:24

The alternative to waiting for proper marking after a strike settlement is using nonexperts and getting dodgy marks though. Is that better? It's an awful situation all round.

MissPop · 15/07/2023 12:24

They will be marked and classified, just at a later date. A pain I know but they will be marked.

SmartHome · 15/07/2023 12:24

Also affecting kids trying to move onto Masters.

Some maybe are also being given their degree classifications without their final dissertations being marked - what a kick in the guts that would be. They seem to be saying on the above thread the disertations will never be marked?

MissPop · 15/07/2023 12:25

If that’s true that is grim.

OddsOff · 15/07/2023 12:33

My DH is head of a University dept and they are giving out full classifications and DS GF University have given her the classification and she started her job just this week.

Qilin · 15/07/2023 12:36

Dd got her final classification about a fortnight ago. Her degree (primary Ed) was unaffected by the action fortunately. Her graduation is going ahead as normal next week - she won't be there as working abroad for the summer. I think she gets her certificate in 2-3 months.

SmartHome · 15/07/2023 12:36

So greta to know that lots of unis are unaffected. So far we know that:

Edinburgh
Cardiff
The OU

are delaying degree classificiatsions (for all? or some?) and may or may not be marking disertations at a later date.

It is these inistitutions that I want to avoid my children applying to as I think it shows enormous disregard for students and their wefare (I went to Edinburgh and they treated students terribly then so that one doesnt surprise me).

https://thetab.com/uk/nottingham/2023/06/23/nottingham-students-who-want-their-work-marked-will-not-receive-certificates-at-graduation-66743 I know it's The Tab which can be a bit shit but it was on the local news the other day as well.

That's not good. DS starts there in September.

Margoliciously · 15/07/2023 13:08

Cardiff are definitely marking at least some. My dd got a first from there this summer (stealth boast alert!)

HeadNorth · 15/07/2023 13:09

It is not whole University's that are affected, it is some subect disciplines. The majority of Edinburgh students received their classified degrees as normal. Some Schools had a high number of staff participating in the MAB and those were the students who didn't get a degree classification. It is a national action and will affect pockets of students in all Universities.

lovefizzycolabottles · 15/07/2023 13:22

Warwick maths marked and proper graduation ceremony tomorrow. Feel so sorry for those who haven’t been marked - especially after the last couple of years they’ve dealt with them being the covid intake. DS masters offers was dependent on his grade so would have been really stressful… I think most of his friends on other courses also know what they got - again some job offers dependent on certain grades.

@SmartHome we might have thought an entity called Office for Students might have been all over this. Sadly not it would seem.

Durham is a very mixed picture. Friends on course but no degree for Physics.

St Andrews is going The no detriment route. You get your score from up to December awarded as your final grade. Once the last semester is marked you can either stay the same or go up. You won't go down.

Cismyfatarse · 15/07/2023 14:02

** Depends on the course.

Seaitoverthere · 15/07/2023 14:12

DD also now has hers from Cardiff.

gogomoto · 15/07/2023 14:13

Cardiff have definitely been marking some, dd has her marks (she has deferred some courses so not graduating yet)
