I think the department contacted her. It’s about the modules I think. But she can’t enrol or choose modules as hasn’t got a college!!

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 11:06

Has anyone been reallocated yet? There seem to be a couple on the student room (one from chads who exceeded offer) but that’s it.

Can I ask a really stupid question- if a student hasn’t received a confirmed college, hasn’t had any communication other then the “we sent you this email in error” email etc etc have they definitely got a place at Durham this year or are they going to turn around on the 6th Sept and say sorry no?

@KittyMcKitty
As she's exceeded their grade offered on UCAS then they are not allowed to now turn them down. It's like a contract and she's done her part. If they did try and get out of it then UCAS would come down on them hard.

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 16:19

@MargaretThursday thank you - her offer was AAB and she got A star A star A - she accepted the offer - so this means that they will definitely take her?

They can't get out of it, in my understanding. It's like a contract.
Durham is just being rubbish at admissions admin, which is standard, but no comfort to you.

When my dd gets out of work I'll ask her because I think she helped deal with an issue back in 2020 where a university tried to back out, and they were told they couldn't. I'm not sure how exactly it was resolved, but I'm pretty certain the university lost.

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 16:26

Thank you - don’t bother your daughter please I just wanted to check that this was a legal contract type thing which it is 😊.

Yes, it is a binding offer. If she has accepted it then she is a Durham student.

Phew well that’s at least one thing we don’t have to worry about!

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 20:31

Oh my - I’m in Greece and wine has most definitely been had (and I’m not normally a drinker) but dd has been confirmed in Chads!! I hope others have had similar good news - I really do.

Yhank you so much for everyone for your support and for listening to my endless winging.

For anyone still waiting i am keeping everything crossed. Dd is so happy and relieved!

GoldenRuby · 30/08/2023 20:32

That is wonderful news @KittyMcKitty!

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 20:36

I know @GoldenRuby its really quite a shock and hasn’t sunk in. We were out at dinner and dd looked at her phone and saw the notification - total shock!

If anyone is still waiting it shows there is hope x

morey · 30/08/2023 20:36

Great news! My son got confirmed at Cuths early evening so very happy!

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 20:37

Oh @morey im so pleased for your ds what wonderful news!

SpamhappyTootsie · 30/08/2023 20:49

That’s brilliant @KittyMcKitty , what a weight off her mind! I hope you can enjoy whatever’s left of your holiday without that worry now. And @morey too! Looks like they are getting through the allocations now.

Many thanks- relief 😅
Good luck to all who are waiting. Looks
Like they are getting the allocations sorted! We haven't been told what type of accommodation but I'm sure that will come soon.
@KittyMcKitty that's so fabulous for your dd and hope she believes it is all happening now

Jalfrezi · 30/08/2023 20:54

Great news @KittyMcKitty and @morey. Did your email also include details of accommodation? DS also received an email from Collingwood this evening as well - but nothing about room allocation so we are not sure if it means he's in or not. It said Congratulations you've made it and a welcome to the college etc. DS is already in Durham and out socialising so I expect that's all I will hear over text tonight.

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 20:56

Does your ds have a preference as to which site he’s at?

Dd has to fill in an accommodation preference form - she’s v straightforward about this and wants to share.

Hopefully it shows there’s some movement and as they had places in clearing there shouldn’t be the over subscription of the last 2 years.

Now just need to keep our fingers crossed that our flight home will happen on Friday!

MargaretThursday · 30/08/2023 20:57

@KittyMcKitty

That's fantastic!
Now you can relax... until she needs to do the university shopping!

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 20:57

@Jalfrezi i think if you get the email from the college then you’re confirmed so congrats to your ds - is he there for pre season training? So spaces are obviously coming up in those which were declared full.

She is obsessed with the idea of university shopping ever since we took her brother to Ikea for it last year! Am relieved that she’s catered as that reduces the amount of stuff - we are a looooong way from Durham. I’m guessing there are storage companies who can store stuff if she needs to clear room during the holidays? I know chads rents a lot of them out.

GoldenRuby · 30/08/2023 21:02

I guess the update on Thursday when they said 77% were allocated didn't necessarily mean that they had got round to actually sending the emails out to all of that 77% to put minds at rest! Fingers cross everyone has plain sailing now.

In not very any weeks time the stress will be Y2 housing .....

My ds did his form in July and ideally would be self catering but happy either way. Just glad he is in! His best mate is also at Cuths and for his allocation 10 days ago so it all seems a bit random!

EwwSprouts · 30/08/2023 21:05

Delighted to hear DC are receiving confirmation of colleges. Hoping they enjoy the rest of the summer. They'll have a lot of fun at freshers' week whichever college.

Edited

Year 2 housing I’m sure will be a walk in the park compared to A level results and this 2 week wait 🤞🏻🤞🏻

DD1 insisted that a trip to Ikea was necessary for a student.
Thankfully dd2 doesn't think that way, so I've been spared it. I'd never been to Ikea before and I think my will to live hopped off at the first escalator...

Although dd1 had a list and worked through it carefully.
Dd2's attitude goes more along the lines of:
Me: Do you want a bottle opener?
DD2: No, won't use one of those.
<5 minutes later>
DD2: Oh look at the cute bottle openers in different designs... I'm getting two....

We found her college let them leave stuff in rooms over Christmas and Easter. What we did at the end of each year was Dh went up with our big car and they booked a room in an Air B&B and stayed there for about 3 days, which was the gaps between rentals. So they put everything into the car (plus half of one of her flatmates, who was from abroad) and left it in it for three nights, then moved it into the new flat and drove home again.

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 21:18

Dd is easily distracted in Ikea by anything pretty or sparkly. She asked today if she’d be allowed to bring her salt lamp and looked surprised when I said probably not!

Shes also horribly messy so I feel sorry for her room mate - although maybe this will be the impetus she needs to become tidier?
