Roobyshoes he said that room was one bathroom to two rooms (the bathroom was between both rooms).

EwwSprouts · 28/08/2023 19:21

DS's flat was comprised of 6 ensuite bedrooms. No shared bathroom rooms. The kitchen was large enough to include a dining table and comfy chairs for socialising. Stevo has one of the best college bars (I'm told) along with JoBo next door. The colleges work hard to make freshers week fun and inclusive. I'm sure your DS will have a great time.

DS's flat had 4 male students and two female students. Three were UK and three international (from 3 different countries). The flat below had the same M/F ratio.

Has anyone who hadn’t had a college allocation heard anything recently? We still waiting…

No

EmmaStone · 29/08/2023 12:01

Nope, still waiting...

PJdesperado · 29/08/2023 13:15

To those that haven't yet heard, DC had accommodation contract through Friday with a deadline for signing tomorrow midnight. Presumably there will be movement after the deadlines, when they will know who has made other plans. Fingers crossed for you all!

SpringSparrow · 29/08/2023 13:28

Any third years got any extra results today? Today is another day when there should have been an update on whether any more work/ exams/ dissertations had been marked. My dc should have graduated in July and none of their third year work has been marked at all. No compensation either. My dc hasn’t even had an email yet 🙄.
For those of you with young people just about to start, I don’t know how much you are aware of the marking ban and strike action by lecturers, which is apparently continuing into September.

Ofcourse44 · 29/08/2023 14:01

Quick question- for those of you who have emailed admissions about college allocations what email have you used..?

chocolatenutcase · 29/08/2023 15:50

@SpringSparrow my DD should have graduated in July too. One exam marked so no degree. I don't think she's heard anything but she's not at home now. Fortunately the job she's got didn't require a degree.

SpringSparrow · 29/08/2023 22:38

@chocolatenutcase congratulations to your daughter on her job. The email my daughter got today says they are going to give her £500 for the inconvenience 🙄, but it seems like not everyone got the same offer. 😐

chocolatenutcase · 30/08/2023 09:55

@SpringSparrow I'll have to ask my DD if she got the same email. £500 is no good to those students who haven't been able to move on. My understanding is that unlike in other years Durham Uni has its hands tied. A national agreement is required this time and if this happens, some universities risk going bankrupt. Durham can't come to an individual agreement with its lecturers like it did last time so no idea when this will end. I fear a cohort of students who will never graduate.

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 11:06

Has anyone been reallocated yet? There seem to be a couple on the student room (one from chads who exceeded offer) but that’s it.

Can I ask a really stupid question- if a student hasn’t received a confirmed college, hasn’t had any communication other then the “we sent you this email in error” email etc etc have they definitely got a place at Durham this year or are they going to turn around on the 6th Sept and say sorry no?

everythingisgoingup · 30/08/2023 11:27

My Dd exceeded her offer snd accepted her place. She has been allocated her accommodation and received her log in for course and can choose modules from 1st Sept.

I would think that if you have accepted your uni offer and put in application for accommodation you wait to hear.

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 11:32

@everythingisgoingup my dd has exceeded her offer by 3 grades having firmed Durham. She accepted her offer. She has no confirmed college, no log ins, has heard nothing from her course, has no ability to choose modules, and was told go away you’ll be contacted when you have a confirmed college when she contacted her provisional allocation (oh and they called her by a different name).

I am really pleased your dd has everything confirmed but it’s clearly a 2 tier system they’re operating 🙁

everythingisgoingup · 30/08/2023 11:51

I wonder if it depends on the halls you choose?

My Dd did not want any of the traditional ones so was allocated her first choice.

Aaarrrh · 30/08/2023 12:53

Hi, you’re not alone, my daughter is in the same position. Really hoping we hear today so she’ll be able to select modules along with others on 1st Sept. Chin up!

I do wish we new that we had been parked until others confirmed allocations. Would have saved a lot of stress and checking for emails. Does make you feel unwelcome and not included which is not a good way to start uni.

My daughter is disappointed (shes expecting to be reallocated) but says “their treatment of me does not define me. I’m there for the course” although she would have loved to experience the old college vibe of her choice she’ll make the best of what comes her way. She’s such a trooper (had to be during the application process) she makes me proud every day.

MFLDurhamMum · 30/08/2023 13:06

DD attended a subject/modules related call this morning. They said not to worry if you've not had your allocation or log in details yet.

MFLDurhamMum · 30/08/2023 13:07

I meant to add that DD hasn't heard yet either.

morey · 30/08/2023 13:18

My son has had no correspondence either since confirming his acceptance on results day (apart form an email sent in error).
He phoned last week and they said that we will hear more in due course.
He is quite laid back about it but I am a details person and keep asking him to check his emails!!

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 13:20

I’m deeply regretting encouraging dd to apply to Durham - everywhere else she applied is now full and she doesn’t want a gap year so we’re stuck with Durham. They made such a big thing about student welfare at the offer holders day. The stress and anxiety is having a very negative effect on dd. I don’t understand how they can feel that the way they’re treating young people is anything other than appalling. Why are they asking people to book modukes when some don’t have the ability to do so?

Aaarrrh · 30/08/2023 13:22

Hi, thanks for the updates!

I wonder if they are allocating alphabetically by course …. If so, it would explain a lot. Does anyone know or is it just random?

Ofcourse44 · 30/08/2023 13:47

Mine also has nothing at all. She has a zoom call later today about choosing modules but nothing else… it doesn’t feel that great waiting….

Aaarrrh · 30/08/2023 13:55

Hi, can I ask about the zoom call. Did the uni department contact you or did you reach out to the department? Thanks!

KittyMcKitty · 30/08/2023 13:59

Aaarrrh · 30/08/2023 13:55

Hi, can I ask about the zoom call. Did the uni department contact you or did you reach out to the department? Thanks!

I would be interested to know this. DD’s course has certain subject specific things which need to be completed but these can’t be accessed unless you have log in information which of course she doesn’t have.
