Just wondering if any of you with kids at Exeter could give us some inside knowledge on the first year accommodation. She's fairly sociable but doesn't want to be right in the thick of the noise. Would also quite like to be near the sports facilities. We are slowing ploughing through the website (when she has breaks in revision) but any knowledge anyone has greatly received. Thank you

Excellent range of options to suit anyone. And you can fine tune once university place firmed. (So it’s possible to ask for a ‘quiet’ flat, for instance.) En suite rooms in shared, self catering flats appear to be good fun, though the catered houses are apparently popular.

Only disadvantage is there’s absolutely no guarantee of getting the sort of accommodation you opt for on the application form.

If on campus I wouldn’t worry about being close to any particular location - it’s all within easy reach. Glorious views and a small friendly city. I gather it’s easy to make friends - and rather necessary to do so, as first years need to sort out second year accommodation almost before they’ve unpacked their suitcases.

Thank you. I was hoping for some actual information on blocks/ areas. ie someone has told my daughter that Lafrowda is the party house.. (so she possibly doesn't want that one)

But that isn’t actually information, is it? Just an impression. Only a small proportion of the first year cohort will be in Lafrowda - and from what I’ve observed recently, plenty of party animals live elsewhere on campus!

I’m particularly wary of repeating gossip and rumours about Exeter because we heard a lot of ‘opinions’ about it that turned out to be completely untrue in practice. (And we know of students who found themselves disappointed because they’d relied on nebulous reported reputation about various houses.)

Thank you for your thoughts, but we really would appreciate peoples opinions / feelings about the various options.

Try the Higher Education section of MN or the Facebook page WIWIKAU - you will get loads of replies, but your list is just an application, you don't know what she will be allocated.

As others have said, my dd didn't get any of her choices so ended up off campus.
So don't pin all your hopes on your favourite choice.

Thx. I will try and get this moved to higher education

@Aixellency 's posts offer good advice.

I recommend looking at The Student Room as they have a long running thread on accommodation options at Exeter where current students give their opinions.
