Know it’s not strictly a uni issue, but thought I’d post on this board.
DD just finished first year and is going on holiday in Corfu with a female friend. This is her first time abroad without family and they plan to stay in hostels.
Other than reminding her to be sensible is there any other advice/practical suggestions she could mindful of?

Not to trust anyone in the hostel and not leave anything lying about but lock it all away. DD stayed in hostels in Australia and you couldn’t leave anything out while you went to loo or shower.
don’t drink anything someone gives you- always get your own drinks.
pack condoms

Travel insurance
Credit card for emergencies
Photocopy of passport in case yours gets nicked
Unlimited Mobile Data package from Holafly using an eSim for her mobile as wifi can unreliable or nonexistent in hostels and on beaches.
GHIC card

A million years ago I took a sleeping sheet with me. Every night I’d kick my passport and money and credit cards down the bottom. A friend’s daughter kept her valuables under her pillow in a hostel and they were stolen one night while she slept!

A Revoke / Starling card is an alternative to a Credit Card
Take in addition to her debit card and keep separately so if one card is lost / stolen she has a back up.

She goes tomorrow and I’m trying to balance offering this information without putting her off!
