Hope everyone’s dc are happy with their allocation. Dd is ecstatic she’s got Chads!!

just praying a) she gets grades
and b) they don’t reallocate.

she’s thrilled and very happy to share a room.

Ds got his fifth choice - Mary's - and is pretty happy. Would have preferred to be on the Bailey, but it's fine. (And it's where I went!)

KittyMcKitty · 11/05/2023 19:13

Mary’s is lovely though - it was dd’s 3rd choice - I’m sure your ds will be happy.

Dd is shocked - in a good way - she thought there was no chance with Chads.

My dd got Collingwood - her first choice and my old college.

Lillith111 · 11/05/2023 19:54

Hi I’m currently a student at Durham. I would say it’s VERY common to get reallocated after results day. Most of my friends ended up in a different college to their original allocation so just don’t get too set on the idea of a certain college! The majority of people love wherever they end up and hill has a lot of perks over Bailey.

lastdayatschool · 11/05/2023 20:07

A lot of meltdown/throwing-toys-out-of-pram posters on TSR Durham thread because they didn't get their choice.

One poor chap - bless him - is now going to 20 minutes walk from his department.

They’re being so rude and entitled!

lastdayatschool · 11/05/2023 21:10

Agreed @Lillith111 - especially the one who got Van Mildert when he wanted Chads.

I know it shouldn't surprise me, but it seems so few of them actually read up, on the University website, on how Durham allocate colleges, i.e. equal spread of subjects across colleges

Rabbitthethird · 11/05/2023 21:17

DD got her first choice - Chads - but thinks it's going to be her insurance, so chances are she'd be reallocated if she ends up going there anyway.

EmmaStone · 11/05/2023 21:26

DD got her first choice of Chads too! She's super excited, but as above, hope she doesn't self sabotage her exams (she should comfortably get her grades but there's no accounting for exam panic...), and hope her allocation stands!

Exciting times ahead for all our DC!

GoldenRuby · 11/05/2023 22:03

Just a note of caution, it wasn't just people who had Durham as their insurance choice who were reallocated last year after results day.

KittyMcKitty · 11/05/2023 22:10

She knows reallocation is always a possibility and we have always discussed that she would be happy in whatever college she is at.

But she’s doing a subject with comparatively small numbers of people and is very happy to share a room (I don’t get all the people on TSR who - not today - have been saying if I want to go to chads but not share - 75% of first years share).

so nothing is a given but this is one step closer iyswim.

TSR tonight of people who are either trying to be funny or obviously don’t bother to read how things are allocated etc.

KittyMcKitty · 11/05/2023 22:13

As dd said tonight - she knows about all the possibilities of reallocation but let’s just be happy and excited for this tonight 😊 and I think she made a good point.

@lastdayatschool. I’m the Van mildert student who tried to talk to him! He was a nasty entitled piece of work. Our friendly and welcoming college doesn’t want anyone like that. I love my college so much and so many people put in hard work to give people a great experience there. Is it bad I hope he doesn’t get the grades and is taken down a notch…

lastdayatschool · 11/05/2023 22:26

Great college @Lillith111. I went to Aidan's a couple of decades ago, but spent many an enjoyable night in Mildert bar - it was closer to my room in 3rd year than my own bar lol

GoldenRuby · 11/05/2023 22:51

@KittyMcKitty exactly, well said. Many don't get reallocated, so absolutely right to be excited but very sensible to be stoic if it does happen.

Good luck to everyone sitting exams - hope you get the grades you need.

IheartNiles · 11/05/2023 22:59

Mary’s - first choice. Now to decide which to firm…

Trumporange · 11/05/2023 23:05

Does anyone know what proportion of applicants get reallocated after results day?

lastdayatschool · 11/05/2023 23:20

What are the other options @IheartNiles vs Durham ?

MidLifeCrisis007 · 12/05/2023 15:11

@Lillith111 - I can vouch for the fact that Van Mildert is an exceptionally friendly and welcoming college. I could not believe the effort the FREPS went to when DS1 arrived there in Sept 21 - the dancing Duck had me in stitches.

DS was initially disappointed to not get one of his top choice colleges but is loving his time at Durham. The Mildert bar was a fab place to hang out last year, the Freshers week activities were amazing (infinitely better than DD had down in Exeter) and he's loving playing college sport (something the college is very strong at). So that entitled lad should put his toys back in the pram. He is very lucky to get allocated to Mildert!

(PS I was a Mary's girl back in the 80s!).

It may have been different with the last couple of years, but I don't think it's very common normally.

Dd graduated last year, and in her year after results they sent all those in her college for who Durham had been insurance, or who had missed their offer and been accepted anyway, an email saying that they might be reallocated. There was a lot of stress on their group chat. In the event it wasn't more than a handful who were reallocated.
They sent the email to everyone in that position, but dd (and many of the others) received her college information by post the next day, so they didn't have long to wait.

Echo what you say. DD is currently a fresher at Mildert- it was her 9th choice and she was initially sad but it’s been absolutely fab- great college and people and she is having an absolute ball (thought not at moment due to exams!).

And the ducks (real and otherwise) are fab!

Weddingmum · 15/05/2023 06:45

My DD has been allocated JoBo which was her first choice so she's happy, there were some very upset students on the TSR but they have to learn you don't always get what you want in life but it usually works out. There's lots of students who didn't even get a place who would love to go to Durham whatever college they were put in!

DeadbeatYoda · 04/06/2023 17:46

What's the TSR please? I've just scrolled through my DS's emails and seen he was allocated Stephenson's ( 1st choice ). He hadn't even noticed he had received an allocation, thank f for MN! 😂

EwwSprouts · 04/06/2023 19:51

@DeadbeatYoda I hope your DS has a fabulous first year in Stephenson. My DS is just coming to the end of his. He's made a lot of friends through college sport. He hasn't ended up socialising much with his own flat but is sharing a house next year with friends from the flat below who he got to know in freshers week, which was well organised.

DeadbeatYoda · 04/06/2023 21:03

Thanks @EwwSprouts glad to hear your lad has found his new place.
Ah, The Student Room, yes I do know that site. Thank you.
