For those whose DC have already applied for accommodation for 2023 entry, do you know:

  1. How many choices can be selected ?
  1. Can you select multiple choices in the same residence; e.g. Standard and En-Suite, as 2 separate choices ?

Observed a friend’s teen apply for accommodation there recently. I’m afraid I can’t remember the details but I’m certain all the info you need is on their accommodation website pages. Sometimes it’s necessary to cross reference 2/3 pages.

So I’d suggest you (or your applicant) reads the website really thoroughly. You’ll find answers there.

Also - the accommodation application form makes it extremely clear which choices you can make.

Thanks for replying @CapaciousHag - I know this sounds like one of those LMGTFY posts - however,

1 - I've reviewed their accommodation website thoroughly - it's one of the better ones - however, it doesn't provide answers to either of those questions/I haven't been unable to locate them.

2 - DS hasn't firmed Exeter yet either, so is unable to access the application form.

There’s your answer! (Of a sort.) If the student hasn’t firmed Exeter they won’t have access to the full accommodation info or online form. It really is all made very clear once you’re in the system.

As I recall my friend’s child was somewhat overwhelmed once they realised just how many options there were to consider (so we had a look with them). They could choose from countless locations and buildings - but were also able to indicate preferences for certain types of environment, housemate, catering etc. It was remarkably detailed.

Important to note - no one was guaranteed their first, or indeed any of their choices. But there was an advantage in firming early.

There is no advantage in firming early @CapaciousHag - it quite clearly says the following on their website:

Undergraduate students - applications are not processed in date order as long as you apply by the guarantee deadline.

and the guarantee deadline is 31st July.

I'm aware of all the residence options Exeter have - I am just being curious and trying to get 2 straightforward questions answered

Dd applied 3 years ago and as far as I can remember she could pick up to 5.
I'm not 100% sure about your second question but I have a feeling you could do that.

But despite meeting all the criteria and applying on time she didn't get any of her choices anyway and ended up in off campus accommodation. It was arranged by the uni but was owned by another company.
It was okay and I think would have been alright if to wasn't for Covid restrictions at that time.

So please be aware that no matter how much thought you put into your choices you may not get any you've picked. We weren't told this at all before she applied.

It's really straight forward once you've firmed. Ds sorted his out as all the information was available on the form/website.

V. sorry, I wasn’t clear - by ‘early’ I meant by the deadline. (Thinking of people we know who applied after that and didn’t have such a fortunate experience.)

Friend’s child adored their first year, on campus, shared flat. The only thing to note is that they had to make friends quickly in order to have people to rent with for yr 2 - there’s a ruthless race for 2nd year accommodation which starts almost as soon as they arrive as freshers.

From memory (2021) you have 5 choices. Also ensuite and standard for say Lafrowda are in different blocks so that would be different options. Also you can put a few preferences so ensuite or location, age range so 18-21 and also quiet blocks. Accommodation in 2021 opened end of July. I hope this helps.
