Does anyone have any info on the accommodation situation at Glasgow? Anyone with DC there who have views on the student experience?

DS keen to go. I know nothing about the city at all so any advice would be appreciated.

Bumping this for you! No experience on Glasgow Uni accommodation other there are a lot of students and not always enough accommodation. I think 1st year normally works out ok but subsequent years needs dedicated effort to get something decent!!

As a city it’s great for students with a very vibrant music scene. What are your DCs interests?

DS is Y1 @ Strathclyde

There are severe shortages. It’s especially a problem Y2 onwards - a real lack of multi bedroom accommodation. Private halls are booked up within a day of going on sale.

DS has sorted himself ok so far for this year and next.

He is having an absolute BLAST! Glasgow is a fabulous student city - 5 unis there means there’s a huge student population and loads to do. The music scene is awesome and DS is taking full advantage of all the city has to offer. Seems to be a brilliant place to be a student - accommodation tricksy but not impossible.

Accommodation for Glasgow Uni opened a week or so ago. DD's just applied. Apparently there are several new halls listed (ie more than last year) so maybe new students will be fine this year.

DD has friends already there - everyone's having a brilliant time apparently. I know a few families whose kids have graduated from there too and all loved it. No horror stories about them being homeless in the 2nd/ 3rd/ 4th year. I'm guessing they have to be organised about it all though.

I think smaller flats easier to find. DD is doing her placement year in Glasgow from September and has found a 2 bedroom flat in the West End easily. DN is in 3rd year and is struggling to find a 5 person flat in the West End (landlord hiked prices so they want to move). He is quite relaxed as his grandfather is within commuting distance (as am i). If they haven't found anything by end of term they will look further afield (Cessnock, Ibrox, Govan) and/or split into smaller groups.

Great uni. My middle one graduated a couple of years ago and had a ball despite covid (plus landed a good job). He commuted (and spoiled my beauty sleep) by falling out an uber after many a night out.

DD has a friend at Glasgow, and they are having a ball. Murano halls are party central.
