Campus universities

I know most universities have a campus of sorts but DD is looking for a traditional campus university - where all the teaching, 1st year accommodation and sport are in one place. So, by this criterion, Leicester and Leeds for example are not campus, whereas Nottingham is.

Traditional campus universities that occur to me: Nottingham, Birmingham, Exeter, Warwick, Essex, York. Do you know of any others please?

@dazzlingdeborahrose sure, but sports fields etc are way out at Newcastle. I am talking traditional campus uni where EVERYTHING is in same place

Aberystwyth It has a main entrance, all the buildings for classes are on the campus as is a lot of housing with some newer housing blocks across the road with a walking bridge over to it. Even the sports fields and the gym/pool/fitness building are in the middle of it all.

Agree with Stirling. It's DD's top choice and she described as "academic Center Parcs".

Lancaster

Dundee

I think of Exeter as a trad campus uni. My son looked at it recently and didn’t fancy being 60 miles away in Falmouth where the course is taught. I’m sure every uni will have a few peculiarities, albeit not necessarily 60 miles of distance.

trulyunruly01 · 15/03/2023 18:45

Winchester?

Copasetic · 15/03/2023 18:49

Both my eldest two went to Uni of Birmingham and the second one is still there. A brilliant uni and a beautiful campus.

sanityisamyth · 15/03/2023 18:54

Stirling. Loved my time there.

collywobble · 15/03/2023 18:55

Loughborough is a campus university with all facilities onsite including a nightclub, three gyms , swimming pool and all the usual facilities you'd expect.

That's not a campus uni.

It is. But it’s right in the centre of the city, which may not be what the OP wants

HuggingtheHRT · 15/03/2023 19:07

Loughborough

@KnittingNeedles an academic Center Parcs exactly what we’re looking for 😂. Good luck to your DD!

Campus universities aren't traditional really are they? The old ones are all over the town (like oxbridge/durham/bristol)

Some of the smaller ones will be.

nodtik · 15/03/2023 19:10

Royal Hollway - University of London. Absolutely stunning campus!

Lancaster. It is built outside the town and entirely campus and is also collegiate, which makes it easy to make friends. I went there and was very happy. It is also high in the rankings these days. It is a bit rainy though.

3littlebeans · 15/03/2023 19:12

Love the idea of academic centre parcs 😁. I think some of the newer unis will be like this or former polys.

I think Univeristy of Sussex was when I visited but didn't see all of it. Certainly accommodation was onside with the student uni, lecture room we used etc.

Riverr · 15/03/2023 19:14

Lancaster

BCamera · 15/03/2023 19:14

Hull

3littlebeans · 15/03/2023 19:14

Bournemouth uni might be but it has halls all over that place. It might have halls onside that are possible?

Dinneronmybfpillow · 15/03/2023 19:29

Keele is - DH went for the same reason and loved it there. They were in halls for 1st year on campus and could go back for 3rd year too.

boys3 · 15/03/2023 19:55

Reading

boys3 · 15/03/2023 20:09

The old ones are all over the town (like oxbridge/durham/bristol)

I'm not convinced that anyone would consider either Durham or Bristol as old. Given when they were actually founded. 😀

Northernsoullover · 15/03/2023 20:12

I wouldn't count Cardiff as a campus uni.

Mummys · 15/03/2023 20:12

Winchester? The playing fields are out of town but everything else is pretty much in one place
