UCAS Extra

DS was browsing UCAS Extra (although he's not eligible unless he declines his existing 2 offers) and was a little bemused to find out that the course he's still waiting to hear from at Durham was being advertised as having vacancies - as are lots of others:

digital.ucas.com/coursedisplay/results/courses?searchTerm=Accounting%20%26%20Finance&studyYear=2023&destination=Undergraduate&providers=Durham%20University&vacancy=eng

Does anyone understand how Extra work ? Do universities still advertise for new applicants on courses people are still waiting to hear from. or is this just a case of Durham not updating the UCAS Central DB

I have had a look at my DSs subject. 3 out of 5 of his unis appear but then so does Cambridge so perhaps it is not all up to date.

I don’t know anything about Extra, but surely if there are still spaces, a dc who didn’t have the offer they wanted from Oxbridge and rejected others, could then apply through Extra to Oxford or Cambridge (whichever one they hadn’t been rejected from) and wouldn’t have to defer a year?

I’ve just had a look at Extra. A lot of courses are listed, but when you click through they don’t appear to have vacancies.

It will just be that they haven't updated UCAS. Even without extra they do not have to consider "late" applications after equal consideration date.

Anyone considering a late application or using Extra should speak to the admissions team first to check they are considering applications made that way.
