I'm thinking places such as St Andrews, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol that have been in the news for lack of student accommodation. Any tips?

Is your DC already at one of these universities or just deciding where to firm ?

When we went to the 2022 offer day at Bristol they said in 2021 they had a 40% increase in students meeting their offer, which probably explains a lot of it.

On Scotland once they have found a property the lease can be open ended and it is more difficult for ll to evict. Rents are protected from rises too. Having said that it costs £££.

Suggest adding Durham to that list

DS was very lucky to get private halls in Glasgow for Y1 (place at Uni through clearing). They aren’t ideal as not in best spot and he’s not sharing w ppl from his uni or year group.

It’s meant him and his mates were super on it for Y2 and have all booked into a different private halls together . They booked the day it went on sale (November) and it sold out the same day. Private rentals are not as popular as further out, cost not less due to energy prices etc, and not as nice!

yes already in a difficult location. It seems DC needs to get private rental and pay for the summer even if they are not there. That's why I asked if any other ideas....

Afraid not, this is what ds had to do going into year 2, paid from the july. In his final year they have paid from September to September, so although he finishes end of June he will have to continue to pay. It is unfortunately how it is and they just have to work the summer to pay for it.

thanks @mumonthehill it just seems so unfair but that seems to be the system.
