Confused by UCAS offer

My DD is taking BTEC qualifications and has applied to Uni.

She's had four of five offers made so far, three of which specify either BTEC grades (DDM) or UCAS points.

One Uni however has said it wants points, but from A levels. She isn't doing any A levels! She will likely meet the points required, but we're not sure if the offer will stand as the points will come from BTECs.

I'm not sure how all this works - should this be clarified via the UCAS site, or directly with the Uni? If so, would this be with the generic Admissions team? Or do we not need to worry, given she should meet the points requirement?

I would clarify with the uni admissions team. There should be an email address in the email from the uni either acknowledging her application or accompanying the offer. If not for sure it will be on the uni website.

Someone has probably clicked the wrong thing in the offer drop-down box - email them!

Thanks @tribpot
There's no contact details for the Uni on either the UCAS site where the offer is listed, or on the letter that you download with the offer details on it. The downloaded letter looks like it comes from UCAS.

We are just a bit confused because three of the offers look fine, and this other one lists specific qualifications she's not taking, like it's not actually looked at her actual application. Weird.

The points system was created in part to help equate qualifications- they ask for points, and she will get them from her Btecs.

Universities just send template emails, and many are lazily crafted. On the uni website there will be a number/ email for the admissions team

Merk · 04/02/2023 22:43

I've just realised DD may not have checked her email account - doh! The Uni may have emailed her there, and given contact admission dept details?

Also, two of the offers use the term 'entry point 1'. Searching on the Uni sites draws a blank - I assume this is normal entry point and not Foundation degree level?

I didn't expect to be confused by this process!

You can get points from all sorts of things like musical grades completed. For university I had enough points to get in from taking a range of musical examinations (e.g. grade 8 Piano) before even adding my A Level results.

It might be that they are saying the points must come from A Level equivalents rather than from other types of qualifications/examinations.

WhatHappenedToYoyos · 04/02/2023 22:47

Entry point 1 means the first year of the course. Entry point 2 would mean starting at the second year, i.e. first year completed already but perhaps had to leave for personal reasons and now reapplying to continue the course from where it was left off.

Entry point 0 tends to be a default setting but means the same as entry point 1.

Entry point: 0 actually means the foundation year - yes, the first year of that applicant's course, but the first year of the actual BSc / BA or whatever would be 'entry point: 1'.

So the OP is correct, her DD's offers are for the 'normal' first year of the degree course.

I'm grateful to those who have responded.
DD will be emailing the Uni about the weird offer tomorrow.
Hopefully, it will be as @titchy has suggested, and just an error from a picklist, and the offer will be amended to be from the points from DDs BTECs.

I recall somewhere there was a site that listed the actual grades that students were admitted on per course. Does anyone know what that was?
