Conditional uni offers

Hi, DD has predicted AAB, with an offer at her favourite of ABB. just wondering if when the a levels results come In, if you are off by a grade, are universities flexible and open to discussion.
Or if you don't meet the conditional offer, then is it bad luck?

Depends. Some do some don't. Some might one year not another. Some courses might others not.

What Uni? Might be more experience to share if we know which.

Unis get results a day or two ahead. If they want to be flexible and have places available after those who did meet their offers (firm and insurance) they may confirm places to some narrowly missing. That decision is made before dc get their results though. If they have places in clearing it might be worth a call.

Agree with PP: depends on which uni, which course, how much they need to fill the space! They may re-read (or read!) the personal statement again at this point too. In theory however, yes, they can decide to accept them even if they don’t meet the requirements of their offer.

This changes year by year and in my experience is massively influenced by how the other applicants do in there exams. My son's conditional offer for Cardiff was ABB and his grades were BBB. We went through clearing and he got through. The following year the same happened to a friends daughter and she didn't get through clearing. I think the course will also make a difference x

They explain part way down this page

When they log into UCAS on results day, if they haven't met their conditional offer and it says they need to go through clearing, the first thing to do is to get in touch with their first and insurance unis, as they may be persuaded to offer a space if you can make a good enough case.

Many don’t if the courses are oversubscribed.
