Where do you live currently?

I'm biased and will say Liverpool because I went there.

Avoid liverpool, Uni is great but don’t send your teen there

@Prettypaisleyslippers - what have you got against Liverpool? It's a fantastic city - though I too am biased because I went to uni there, would have loved to have stayed there but couldn't get a job in my chosen field. But have been back many times since and still love it. In fact am going up in a few weeks.

DD recently visited Southampton Uni and said "there's nothing wrong with it, there just wasn't anything I particularly liked". Whereas Liverpool has so much going for it - it has great architecture (the often quoted "more Georgian buildings than Bath"), shopping, nightlife, museums, river, people, restaurants, several large parks and easy access by train to beaches, countryside etc. Like any city, it has its dodgier areas, but then so does Southampton.

So I'd definitely say Liverpool, although Southampton might suit if preference is for smaller city or closer to your home city.

I am not a snob. I’m from the north west, I went to Uni in Liverpool too and I support Liverpool FC. However I wouldnt be happy living as a student there.

I’ve visited a lot of universities (for my job) and the Southampton campus really stands out, they’ve moved their admin/facilities functions off site to maximise student experience, maximise teaching and learning spaces on campus. student experience is high on the Vice Chancellors agenda. They have world class research/super computing credentials.

Also the climate, much warmer on the South Coast, access to great beaches

How do they each rank academically?
