Glasgow Uni Timetable clashes

Looking for some advice for my son who starting a couse in Computing Sciecne and Maths this month. He is having huge issues with timetabling classes - I think he has eventually got the classes for maths and computing sorted but cannot get anything sorted for the reamining credits he requires.q He has tried every option available in the enrollment timetable and either it clashes with his exsiting classes or he gets a message saying he is not eligible to enroll for thst class.

The helpdesk havn't got back to him and he doesn't know who else could help him sort this. He doesn't seem to have a names contact.

I am trying to reassure him that it will be sorted when he gets the chance to speak to an actual person but he is very worried about this and has spend a long time trying every option on the enrollment page.

Is this typical for the beginning of term of should he try to be more proactive ( and how to be more proactive ) to sort this??

He needs to find out the name of his advisor of studies or programme leader and ask them for help. There will have been some induction materials either emailed out or posted on the vle identifying senior academics on the programme.

Thanks, I will ask him to have another look through his emails and see if there is a name. He has some induction lectures so hopefully he can find out whi would be best.

It’s not such a big deal, mycampus is really confusing and it happens to a lot of people! He will need to email [email protected] and explain he is having issues with enrolment, even if he starts classes a week or two late, it’s a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme! Direct him to this page >> that’s where I got the link www.gla.ac.uk/schools/computing/informationforstudents/studentenquiries/

Brillant! Thanks. I will direct him to that page. He is finding it all very stressful!

In my Department, our very experienced Administrator would assist him. She'd probably talk through with him what he wants to do, and see if it can be sorted manually.

Of course, he won't be able to enrol for modules which clash, but there may be work arounds by getting him allocated to a different seminar group and so on.

University timetables have been known to crash mainframe computers in the past!

He has sent some emails so hopefully will get some help to find an option. If not hopefully he can find an administrator to talk to. It is all very complicated!
