DS will be starting next month and as a Scottish student he has a firm place and halls (Sallies) confirmed.

Anyone have any ‘wish I’d known’ top tips / recommendations for him or us?

So having told DD it would be next week they came back an hour later with ABH catered en-suite and eye wateringly expensive as well as being low down her list. She wanted small and in town. Oh well at least DD knows where she is going!

@GarlicBreadItsTheFuture @Valleyofthedollymix DD got ABH catered ensuite. Not first choice (not second or third) and I'll be honest he was disappointed it's not a small one in town. I'm not convinced they looked at choices at all. But onwards and upwards. I'm trying to sell in the ensuite bathroom but he doesn't care about that!

I should have said DS😳

My DD also got her 4th choice!. She was hoping for shared single catered in one of the old halls and instead has got double bed, en suite, self catered in Powell Hall. Powell wasn’t even on her radar as it’s a post grad hall. She’s not happy ☹️

@pinkmoomin Sorry to hear that. I think maybe the uni shouldn't offer choice beyond catering and self catering because I don't think they really pay much attention to the choices and the students get let down. My DS went to the open day and wouldn't even visit ABH because he didn't like the look of it. Of course that's where he gets a room 😂

I think they are very tight in accommodation and don’t have sufficient accommodation that is catered or near the humanities buildings.

If they can’t cope with the broad categories of choice, I think they would really sink if they tried to go Hall by hall.

It seems that most freshers want catered accommodation which makes sense since they are away from home for the first time. I would prioritise them for catered accommodation and force older students into the self catered stuff.

I suppose there are many different points of view, all with their own justifications.

I think they should all be glad they have accommodation and aren't having to go and stay in Dundee!

You're absolutely right! Dundee was the spectre that hung over it all, lovely as I'm sure it is.
