Looking for a University

My DS is just coming to the end of his first year of A Levels. Should we be looking at universities now? He doesn’t know what he wants to do after college and even if he wants to go to uni. I feel lost and not sure if we should be looking but then if he doesn’t know what he wants to do then how do we know which uni’s to look at. What would you suggest? Is there a tick list of uni’s we should go though?

I took DS and his mate to see three universities in the summer holidays to get a general feel of campus v city centre, old v new. Turned out DS prefers small, his friend big and new. It was useful as it meant they could narrow down which ones to actually visit in the Sept/Oct as it's usually only feasible to fit in a few due to time and cost.

One of the least productive / most productive weekends I spent with DD when she was looking was the one where we did Reading on the Friday and Bristol on the Saturday. Bristol consolidated her feeling that she really wanted a campus university. And Reading, just not this oneGrin

When my kids were at that stage, I sent off for a handful of hard copy prospectuses and gave them to them to browse through. It gave them ideas for courses that were available that weren't just straight forward geography, English etc.
Then they thought about if they wanted a campus or a city university and tried to narrow it down that way
You will need to get a move on though.

Bristol consolidated DD's feeling that although it sounded great on paper it wasn't for her.
