Student finance

I am trying but failing to set up a student finance account to support my ds s application.
I suspect I had an account for tax credits years ago and there's an account already in existence.
It won't let me access this or create a new account.
I phoned and they said I got a security question wrong so would need to send a form.
However, I have no printer and I eill really need an account over the next 3 years.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Does your dc not need to create the account?

TizerorFizz · 23/05/2022 16:10

Why do you need an account? All student finance goes via DS’s account. I’m confused. Do you just mean you want to access your own bank account and pay money over to him regularly?

My dc made an account and applied for the finance. Then student finance sent me a link saying that I needed to make an account to input my income details, but I can't make the account.

Lots of complaints on their social media page, can one your son print it off at school?

kateclarke · 23/05/2022 16:27

Thanks for the replies. He could print it but his a levels start tomorrow and he's very anxious so don't want to add to it. And surely I need an account and there must be a eay of getting one?

Yes, if your DS is applying for more than the minimum loan you need your own account.
It won't be anything to do with tax credits though.
It could be that you had a student loan yourself - that seems to cause problems if you can't remember your login details.
Can you print stuff at your local library?

lightisnotwhite · 23/05/2022 17:01

I had a similar thing. My DS applied and sent me a link - which never arrived. Not in my inbox or junk.
As I went to Uni in 2010 I had to use my account which I forgotten all the details of. I asked for password resets but they never arrived either. After three weeks I managed to log in as I guessed my old password. Clearly my resets didn’t work. Weird. I have had one email to confirm my application. DS was given all the details.. Very glitchy

I think you need to ask DS to copy it at College too. That’s not stressful for him surely?

I did nursing at uni in the days before we needed a loan, so I'm sure I haven't had an account. The library is a good idea, thank you

My husband had the same problem. It said he already had an account and was locked out. He would have had a student loan 28 years ago! Anyway they sorted it out over the phone for him. It might be worth you ringing back and seeing if you get someone more helpful.

kateclarke · 24/05/2022 14:36

Thanks @Sallyingon I ended up printing it at the library, but will ring when it's quieter to sort it for next year.

You still need a customer number to fill in the form, however you get it. And they will send them out on request, though I don't necessarily guarantee that you'll get the correct form in the post first time...

Darbs76 · 24/05/2022 20:57

I believe you just need to phone them up and they will sort it out

The student loan co. website is rubbish. Loads of people have had problems. The site told me I already had an account (but couldn’t log in) and I absolutely definitely don’t. Never had one.
You will have to print off the form and post it. You don’t need your customer number for this, just your child’s.
My dd set up an account and did an application, and we’ve sent in the form, but when she checks her account it says she has no application. That’s a whole other story. DS set one up too and for some reason it says he does have an application. It’s really shambolic.
we sent the forms by special delivery because we didn’t trust them not to deny receiving them.

FictionalCharacter · 24/05/2022 21:07

Sorry, the form you need to send with your financial details, if you can’t set up an account, is form PFF2. You have to print it, fill it in and post.
you can try phoning student finance co. but people have reported being on hold for an hour.

Can I just hijack and say THANK YOU. You have made more sense in that post than the SF website which I've been lost in for days!
