Accommodation for Leeds Beckett

My daughter will be going to Leeds Beckett in September but we are finding it very challenging to pick the right accommodation for her. None of the options are cheap and when they are on the cheaper side they end up seeming suspicious. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of the various halls- which to avoid at least, but preferably somewhere to recommend? She is very sensitive and I'm very worried!

Why not ask on The Student Room? www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=186
There are Student Reps on there for questions. One called Clare answered a question on the “Questioning my choice” thread. You could message her if you don’t find any answers.

My son lived in ArenaVillage and loved it. From memory I think Marsden was quite the party hall but am willing t be corrected!

Thanks for the replies, I had see the comments about Marsden and it does put me off! I will check out the student room too.

Also have a look - more especially, get your DD to have a look - on the student crowd site.

My son and I went for applicant day in April and visited Arena Village and Marsden. We were told that Carnegie, on the Headingly campus, was already full, as was Marsden. We put down a deposit for Arena Village. All rooms en suite. Prices vary according to room size but cheapest was £171 bills included. If I recall, Mill Street was cheaper but a bit out of the way and not ensuite. My son will be based at Headingly campus so that's a bus ride of about 3 miles from Arena which is 6 minutes walk from the other main campus, City Campus. Where will your daughter be studying? I think that lots of students share Ubers to Headingly. Arena is very central for bars etc. There is also Broadcasting Tower but that is more expensive than Arena. All ensuite and cheapest room £183 per week. Broadcasting Tower is right next to City Campus and conveniently placed for city centre. There are probably other halls not owned or run by Leeds beckett and these will have a mixture of students ie some from Leeds University, some from the school of fashion etc.

Hi, yes there's so many to choose from and mixed reviews. She will be at city campus, she viewed Arena in person but didn't love it. I then went with her and we viewed a privately run one (can't remember the name, next to the hospital) but the area didn't seem great. Then she was interested in broadcasting tower (very convenient location!) but the price was off-putting. Last night she went ahead and put her name down for Plaza, it seems a bit cheaper but still close to campus. We haven't had to pay a deposit so I guess we can still change if we discover something terrible😬.

I lived in Mill Street but it was a long time ago now! It's not ensuite but had 2 bathrooms between 5 people, we agreed to split them by male/female. It wasn't too bad.

It seems far out, as it's at the opposite end of town to the uni. It's not too far to walk into the centre, it's just all up hill to uni!

I stayed there for my first 2 years of uni (with friends rather than randoms in the 2nd year).

Whatabanana · 23/05/2022 20:12

There are lots of bad reviews for the Plaza 😬. She really wants an ensuite and I think being closer to campus is easier all round, but reading all the reviews makes it so hard to trust anywhere. She has struggled with her mental health so I'm especially 😟.

There's always lots of bad reviews for everywhere though! I'm not sure they are representative of all views.

Whatabanana · 25/05/2022 21:45

That's exactly what makes it hard though😬.

Son was at Arena village and it’s very central/close to city campus. He loved it although also spent a lot of time at Marsden (known for its parties). You can choose whether to be in a flat with outgoing, party types or quieter types, so the system quite good (a bit like online dating for flatmates 🤣).
