University Accommodation

Hi folks

I'm new to this and have a quick question regarding contract lengths for halls or private uni accommodation. We have booked halls for firm choice which is for 44 weeks and am now trying to book for insurance, However, the length of contracts at insurance are either 50 weeks or 38. Obviously I don't want to book 50 weeks because DS won't want to stay in the summer but is 38 weeks enough?

Thanks in advance

38 weeks will be enough for term time but you may have to clear out at Christmas and/or Easter

DS3 has 38wks covers academic year comfortably so no clearing of room at Christmas or Easter. Have you looked at academic year dates at the insurance Uni? I’d be surprised if they offered an accommodation duration that did not align.

Thank for your replies. I was wondering if he would have to move out. I have contacted Uni to check. What a faff that would be!

Is it university owned accommodation or private halls? If the former, I'm going to guess it's somewhere where they can make a lot of money out of renting rooms out for Easter and might make you move out?

The 50 week contracts are usually aimed at medical / nursing etc, or postgraduate, students, so if those are the only two options, the 38 week contract will be the one for 'general' undergraduates.

A 38 week contract will include the Christmas and Easter holidays so there is no need to move stuff out then.
