Hi,

Have been researching the possiblility of becoming a nurse. My local uni does a nursing diploma course and I am going to call on Monday and talk to some one. In the meantime, does anyone have any advice? Am I too late to be considered for September intake as the UCAS deadline in net week?

As long as you are within the UCAS deaadline you should be fine...if, for whatever you are to late for Septembers intake, it will most probably let you know when you try to do the choices.
Also, a lot of Nursing courses seem to start in January.
Any specific reason why you would go for Diploma instead of a degree? The degree tends to be the more desirable....but I believe the funding and burseries work differently...

Hi 3ANM

The diploma would allow me to start training straight away as I have the qualifications. I already have a student loan from previous degree so was encouraged by the bursary offered by the diploma. I've checked and the 2nd intake is in March. I'm willing to wait though. Guess I'll have to talk to some one on Monday.

I thought it might be something like that...
and well, you can always go straight on to do the degree, it would mean 4 years altogether instead of 3...but it would mean, only 1 year on a more difficult bursery, I suppose...
March as second intake isn't to bad....well, best of luck to you

lol...there are quite a few Nursing students on mn...you will find them here and of course in the Student Parents section!

Must admit I don't know much about how it works now...I did mine , many, many years ago, in Germany...but a girl that I did a Academic Study skills course with is starting her Nursing Diploma now...and it was her that told me about the different Burseries you get in Diploma compared to Degree courses...

Did you talk to someone at the University, mozzy? And if so, how did it go?
