Hi,

My son has been offered a place at Exeter. Does anybody have recommendations about accommodation please? He would prefer self catering if possible. I have done a bit of research but having never been to Exeter - I don’t have a clue! Thank you in advance.

If he's going into university halls, then there's info online that he can research. Exeter is pretty small, so none of the halls are going to be far away, though he probably wants one near the campus he will be studying at.

Student accommodation is in high demand, but if he makes Exeter his firm choice and gets an accommodation application in, then they will guarantee a place, even if they have to put him in one of the private halls. Probably worth him coming down for a visit?

It's him that needs to be looking into it, though, not you!

A family member is there.

Lafrowda (new, not 'old') and the others in that areas are very central and some of the most popular (2 applications per place), although can also be a bit noisy at times.
Apparently the new accommodation at East Park is very nice and well equipped.
The places further out (Duryard?) are less popular and a bit of a schlep!
Nowhere is very far though and he'll probably be fine!

It's probably worth him getting on The Student Room and asking for some advice there from current students, it's a bit like Mumsnet for students Grin

I agree with @CornflakeMum

If your son's course is at Streatham campus (the main one) my DD based her decision on location. So in order it would be: Lafrowda (new), East Park, Rowe then Birks. Duryard is up cardiac hill and everyone moans about the hill when coming back from partying in Exeter.

To be honest the accommodation in Exeter is all pretty good.
